Saturday, May 30, 2015. Denver Comic Con 2015 Review.kind of. What a convention. Well, Denver Comic Conventions 2015 has wrapped up, and after about a week of recovery.I am STILL recovering. It was an amazing weekend with amazing people, an amazing staff, volunteers, attendees, panels, panelists, artists, vendors, celebrities, etc. I am still on cloud nine from the weekend. My plan is to talk more about my reactions to the weekend, the internet's reaction to the weekend, and if you want some of my though...

Friday, July 3, 2015. World Card Experts and Cardistry. I have to thank De'vo for this opportunity. I have been blessed with the opportunity to design some amazing decks, including Magicians Must Die. With him. This deck, by far, has to be my favorite that isn't MMD. The design is killer, it looks amazing in motion (check out this video: Bicycle Cardistry in Motion. And the tuck is covered in foil and looks fantastic! This deck will be available on Sunday for VIP members of the World Card Experts.

http://jnoblepeteranetz.blogspot.com/2015/05/star-wars-denver-comic-con-badges-day-7.html

Sunday, May 17, 2015. Denver Comic Con Badges Day 7. Another one of my favorite badges. I LOVE how the lightsaber came out, and I think the characters came out really well. This one was fun figuring out the background colors, but when I finally did, this image just popped. This badges is for the Saturday Voluteers and programming presenters. I look forward to seeing you all at Denver Comic Con Booth 324! Labels: 2015 DCC Badges. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Alan Hawley Illustration: March 2013

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 22, 2013. I attack it with dioxazine purple in the next stage; using it basically the same way I used payne’s grey in the underpainting. It is at this point that paint now covers the entire bird except for the very brightest of highlights in his beak and eye. Now I am ready to begin the underpainting on the background. Because I know I want the leaves to be red, I use alizarin crimson hue to do the underpainting. Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Johns Creek Arts Center.

Alan Hawley Illustration: Red Tailed Hawk Acrylic Painting

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2013/12/red-tailed-hawk-acrylic-painting.html

Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Red Tailed Hawk Acrylic Painting. Before I start a painting, I always think about where my darkest values will be with the understanding that I will only use payne’s grey and dioxazine purple in those areas. The lightest areas should be devoid of dark pigments to give as much contrast as possible. Wherever I am not using payne’s grey or dioxazine purple I have to use other pigments to get those grey values. This is called black, white and grey composition. You can see in the...

Alan Hawley Illustration: Process for Rabbit Ambush and Rocket Raccoon

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2015/05/process-for-rabbit-ambush-and-rocket.html

Saturday, May 2, 2015. Process for Rabbit Ambush and Rocket Raccoon. For this painting, it was crucial that the planning was carefully thought out because there were many elements in the composition that needed to be separated from each other. To separate all the elements, maximum contrast is very important. The areas in the composition that needed separation were the rabbits, the wolf, the large tree, the grass, the trees behind the wolf and the treeline in the distance. After I had a good understanding...

Alan Hawley Illustration: December 2012

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Friday, December 14, 2012. Finished this up today, I've been figuring out a good balance between preserving the white of the board and using opaque paint. Got to use some phthalo blue on this one. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Johns Creek Arts Center. Attack of the Awesome. Heritage Auction - October 2016 - Illustration Art. New Work and a new interview. Alan Hawley Illustration: April 2015

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 18, 2015. Rabbit Ambush and Rocket Raccoon. I on occasion like to explore cartooning. One day I hope to put together a story both written and illustrated by myself. It is an ambitious project but I think it could be fun to self-publish a book in this illustrative style. I may have to simplify the drawings for the interior pages, it is going to require more sketching to come up with a more solid design for these strange characters. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Alan Hawley Illustration: April 2013

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Finch Acrylics and Process. I wanted his belly to be more separated from the background so I did a few gradient washes with dioxazine purple to accomplish this. Doing so brought the bird more forward; I needed his lower underbelly to be nearing a dark grey. Again, I figured this out by looking at my painting in the mirror and when I did, the value problems became more apparent. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Johns Creek Arts Center. Attack of the Awesome. Alan Hawley Illustration: June 2013

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 30, 2013. The process for this painting was a little different for me this time. Although I am rendering a dark foreground as I did with the bird paintings, this particular animal proved to be more of a challenge. The reference photo that I shot made for a good landscape and since I wanted to show the dragon’s arms and part of his body, I had to create an environment for him. To put the dragon in a more dramatic setting, I looked at pictures of komodo dragons in the wild. Painting this anima...

Alan Hawley Illustration: Wolf Acrylic Painting

http://alanhawley.blogspot.com/2014/03/wolf-acrylic-painting.html

Saturday, March 8, 2014. With this post, you will be able to see a day by day process for my wolf acrylic painting. Recently, I had to manage my time better since I do not always have the time to work on my art. What I decided to do is set aside 2 to 4 hours each day to work on my own drawing or painting. Each image represents 2 to 4 hours of work for that day. What I’ve noticed is that with a designated time slot, I am more focused and I seem to get more done. You should notice that I did not do a wash ...
