joanell.com - working with fabric

I love fabric and sewing just sitting at the sewing machine and creating. That is how and why these art quilts have materialized. The creative process carries over into photography, paper collage and working with tin. I refer to this picture as CAMERA WARS as I battle it out with my sister and our cameras. I am wearing my most favorite chicken shirt. The image was discharged with bleach and I will be so sorry when it actually totally falls apart from the bleach. Life happens in the space between.

http://www.joanell.com/index.php/about

Each time I dropped a class in college, I filled the spot with an art class but it never occurred to me to do art. Years later, a chain of unrelated events led to a career in the arts. For more than 25 years I have created made things with the intention of selling it became my business. Turning a passion or hobby into the way you make money can change your perspective, goals, sense of success, and certainly feed insecurities. It was all really great until it wasn’t fun anymore. Monday, April 20, 2015. My quilt is on tv! I was watching the latest Quilting Arts show over breakfast this morning. Jamie and Leslie were guests and were discussing how to enter shows, and there was a slide show of many of the quilts in the 2014 Reflections exhibit, curated by Dinner at Eight. So anyway, it was a thrill to see my "Saffron in the Park" on TV! Nice way to start the day. I know, the colors look weird. Thursday, April 9, 2015. Sizzix Blog Hop: Flower Frenzy.
