Mable Taplin, Founder. After years as a committed healthcare professional she wanted to share her knowledge in a broader capacity as a volunteer with the International Center for Equal Healthcare Access and the Clinton Foundation. This volunteer opportunity led her to Lesotho, Africa to aid in the restructuring of an HIV clinic. Her career, travel and community service including the most impactful life-changing event served as the catalyst to establishing Joanie Girl's Heart.

Joanie Girl’s Heart (JGH) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping under-exposed minority youth. JGH purposes to help youth expand their life perspective beyond their current environment and experiences. Through partnership with Chicago Public High Schools, Community Service Organizations, and Faith-Based Communities, Joanie Girl’s Heart establishes mentoring programs that target youth who have an interest in pursuing healthcare careers. The life skill workshops are conducted by Subject Matter Experts (SME). Moreover, program participants will have the opportunity to meet and engage healthcare professionals from several disciplines during the workshops. The healthcare professions that are highlighted are: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Mental Health, Healthcare Administration and Naprapathy/Chiropractic. The mentors assigned to the youth are trained and tasked with mentoring the students in life skill development.
