Joanne Mattera Art Blog. GUARANTEED BIASED, MYOPIC, INCOMPLETE, AND JOURNALISTICALLY SUSPECT. Going Big" on the Lower East Side. Sometimes Facebook just can’t contain itself. Going Big. Is what happens when 111 artists who know one another largely through posts and comments on social media come together in real time in and space: a cross between a mini MoMA and community block party with art. A big space for Going Big. Ys curator Suzan Shutan. Also, note the curators, Going Big. Refers to the "seemingly ...

Joanne Mattera Art Blog. GUARANTEED BIASED, MYOPIC, INCOMPLETE, AND JOURNALISTICALLY SUSPECT. 2010, acrylic on canvas, 24 x 24 inches. It’s no secret that I’m interested in diamonds. My entire current solo show, up now through May 28 at the Marcia Wood Gallery. Is full of them—squares turned on their axis, along with some elongated parallelograms of the shape you might describe as harlequin. But this post is not about my work. It’s about what other artists are doing with these shapes. A. Geometric aggres...
Joanne Mattera Art Blog: No, I Will Not Donate to Your Auction
http://joannemattera.blogspot.com/2007/06/no-i-will-not-donate-to-your-auction.html
Joanne Mattera Art Blog. GUARANTEED BIASED, MYOPIC, INCOMPLETE, AND JOURNALISTICALLY SUSPECT. No, I Will Not Donate to Your Auction. Thinking in Wax"- Notes on a Juried Show. A regional museum requested that I donate a small painting to their auction. I said no. What’s wrong with this picture? Here’s the problem: the people least able to afford to donate are the ones repeatedly being asked to give it up. And the ones most able to afford to buy artwork are getting it for a song. Reasons to Donate Your Art.

Joanne Mattera Art Blog. GUARANTEED BIASED, MYOPIC, INCOMPLETE, AND JOURNALISTICALLY SUSPECT. Rocky Mountain High, Part 2. Rocky Mountain High, Part 1: Space Gallery. So let me show you a few pictures of the work set into its new home. You can't see from this picture, but the roof lets in a lot of light. You walk up a flight of stairs to get to the galleries, greeted by a self portrait of the artist and some of his early work. Same wall, opposite view. Here's another . . . Everything about the museum is ...

a stitch in time: December 2013
http://stitchsarah.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
A stitch in time. Some of my time is in stitches. Waking early, refreshed, easily. A tiny kitten for company. Yoga outdoors for an hour. Walking to the beach and back over a big hill - hard work but easy too. Making art from scraps. Visiting the Art Gallery - blown away by Hotere. Meeting up with a series of beloved friends. Receiving a delightful gift. Contemplating an emotional challenge, moving toward resolution. Drinking a single glass of superb wine. Resting in peace in beautiful surroundings. How t...

Back to tell you a little bit of what i've been doing. I'm back on my blog? Sortof, but not really. I'm going to see if this blog can work as a kind of news room. it may be that i need to explore newer options like twitter or tumblr (that a thing, right? To make simple, clean updates to my goings on. But for now, here we are, staring into each other eyes as time passes. Other upcoming waiting in the wings:. NEXT FRIDAY I am in the exhibition. The Mechanics of Joy. Love the artists in this show, and can't...

Best of cincinnati, jimmy baker, drag. This week's issue of CityBeat is our annual Best of Cincinnati issue. It is a witty guide to Cincinnati's great food and drinks, shops, galleries, artists, music venues etc etc etc. i was involved in a lot of different picks about realist painters, vintage shopping, gay brunch, drag queens, video art etc. Read through all of the staff picks (and the perhaps less reliable readers' picks) here. Or pick up a copy and use it as your locavore bible. A Movie a Day. Betwix...

Drifting in and out. The latter half of 2009 got much busier than I expected. my infrequency in posting anything of substance confirms this. on top of the many different projects i currently have going on, i've decided to increase my efforts in my lifelong work of journalling for myself. I hope everyone's winter seasons are proceeding beautifully! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. A Movie a Day. Betwixt Thee and Me Let There Be Truth. Joanne Mattera Art Blog. a stitch in time: abundance
http://stitchsarah.blogspot.com/p/abundance.html
A stitch in time. Some of my time is in stitches. The Quilts of Abundance. The Box of Abundance holds a fairly random mixture of approximately shirt-weight cottonish fabrics from (I think) the middle 1980's. My - self-imposed - challenge is to use it to make quilts for a big patchwork group's community quilt donation programme. Black Abundance - a mixture of horrible geometric prints of primary colours on white. Randomly chopped and reassembled with a little red and a lot of black. Given! Joanne Mattera ...
a stitch in time: seed words
http://stitchsarah.blogspot.com/p/seed-words.html
A stitch in time. Some of my time is in stitches. These might one day be quilts - titles sometimes come before images. Called by some chemistry of honey and musk - A.S. Byatt : something yellow/brown. Warriors against oblivion - something with the metal pieces on grey. The push against the beyond begins - Patiann Rogers. The avoidance of unreason. Ways to say No with no ending. The ones who refuse to survive themselves. Love goes in and out, friendship is forever. Florals behind the barbed wire set?
