It's what I do. I have enjoyed plenty of snow around the festive period. Eoin and I went on a walk [trudge more like] in the Pentland Hills south of the city. It's mostly gone now and things are starting to feel a bit like Spring. there's hope for me! I am travelling to NZ next month to see my family and meet my new nephew, Kahu. It's what I do. Family, friends and faultlines. In March I flew across to the other side of the world to meet my nephew, Kahu Shiva Davis. He is a very cute 6 month-old nephew and gave me plenty of smiles and hugs and videos, which I will always treasure. While I was back in Christchurch I did a few of my favourite things: walked up the Port Hills, walked along New Brighton Beach, ate cheap fish n' chips, drank flat whites and Dux beer [bottled], hugged my friends and soaked up the sun. It's what I do. How lucky was I to have time over summer to cycle 220miles in 4-5 days? Mhairi had taken all of August off and encouraged me to join her on a tour of the outer Hebrides islands of Scotland. As keen as we were to jump straight on another big route, a storm forecast for a couple of days, and the occasional ‘cloud of death’ tempered our enthusiasm, whereas the blue skies and sunshine we kept getting did wonders for our tans. Wednesday, August 15, 2007. Our days climbing in Lofoten were characterized by long days with beautiful sunsets. Gone was the midnight sun, we were a few weeks too late, but it was more than made up for by the magnificent sunsets. Another very long day saw attempting a sea to summit ascent of The North Ridge of Vågakallen. This was an alpine climb with all the best stuff, a long walk in, blue berries to eat on the way, a few loose rocks and a couple of huge chimneys one of which finished in a tunnel!

Tuesday, September 05, 2006. Sjoa was magic. As I sat in the car on the long way home from Sjoa, I felt happy and energised. I hadn't felt so happy or relaxed on the way over, so I concluded that there must be something in the water in Sjoa that refreshes the spirit. Or perhaps it something to do with the relaxed camping (and in the shade this time), great people and awesome paddling. The next day, me and my new kayak followed "Team Sweden" to the Bovra. Sun glacial river = lots of water lots of fun!

There's usually a spell of great weather at this time of year, and the evil midges haven't awoken from their winter slumber. The climbing itself is usually great too. Being four pitches up from the corrie floor makes everything that little bit more committing, and a spot of exposure always makes things more fun.
