Joe's Wildlife Garden

Monday, 14 April 2014. Whiteknights Campus in Spring. The entrance to campus which I use is a little gate which is located at the corner of Whiteknights Lake. From this corner, you can get a great view across the surface of the lake, especially when the light is good, as it has been the last few days. Depending on how early you get there and how low the sun is in the sky, you can capture the dew on the grass, giving the impression of a hard frost. Coal tit (seen on way back to house). Ah, something else ...

Joe's Wildlife Garden: Red Kites in Early April Sunlight

http://www.joe-wildlife-garden.blogspot.com/2014/04/red-kites-in-early-april-sunlight.html

Tuesday, 1 April 2014. Red Kites in Early April Sunlight. You can't go more than 15 minutes without seeing a red kite soaring over our garden, or anywhere in The Chilterns for that matter. They're amazingly abundant, to the point where one might wonder how there could possibly be enough food to sustain their population. Its not uncommon to see groups of 10-15 kites flying overhead, scanning the area for potential food sources. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Blue Tit Camera Nestbox Diary 2014. I am a...

Joe's Wildlife Garden: April Macro Photography

http://www.joe-wildlife-garden.blogspot.com/2014/04/april-macro-photography.html

Wednesday, 9 April 2014. One of the first colours you'll notice when walking round our garden though is the deep red of last years cotoneaster berries (the ones which haven't been eaten by the blackbirds that is). Throughout the winter, blackbirds and the occasional song thrush picked berries from this shrub, and more recently, blackcaps too. The blossom in the picture below was from one of the shrubs with overhangs into our garden from next door. No idea what it is- any ID help would be appreciated.

Joe's Wildlife Garden: March 2014

http://www.joe-wildlife-garden.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 March 2014. Singing Robin in Low Light. Back home from uni for the Easter holidays and just felt like getting a blog post up today. Just a couple of pictures of a singing robin in late afternoon in poor light. Used a high ISO to try and compensate for the dull conditions (have always preferred digital noise over blurry images), but the results are still not great. Going to try and get out early tomorrow morning to get some more photography done. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). We were up and silly...

Joe's Wildlife Garden: Blue Tit Nest Box Diary 2014

http://www.joe-wildlife-garden.blogspot.com/2014/04/blue-tit-nest-box-diary-2014.html

Tuesday, 1 April 2014. Blue Tit Nest Box Diary 2014. Here we go again; for the third time in four years, our camera nestbox is being occupied. This time, its a blue tit pair who have taken residence. She is currently visiting the box as much as 15-20 times an hour, sometimes with nesting material, sometimes without. The second video shows a couple of clips from later on in the day (after 16:00), and you can see the progress she has made just in one day. No chicks fledged from the blue tit nest of 2011, a...

Downland Views: October 2012

Musings of life in an area of chalk downland with its abundance of wildlife but only a few miles from London. Sunday, 14 October 2012. I always find Autumn to be a peaceful time. There is a sense of things settling down for a well earned rest and, to be honest, I would like to join them as I feel tired. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Biggin Hill, United Kingdom. Musings of life in an area of chalk downland with its abundance of wildlife but only a few miles from London. Sunday, 8 December 2013. Last Post (for a while). I have legitimately been able to forget the housework and go off exploring the countryside as the doctor said walking would strengthen my knee and help with its recovery following the op. It has worked.I am now pain free! I have also visited the various parts of Saltbox S.S.S.I. The area we overlook from our bungalow is very disapp...As did the As...

Rose's Wildlife Garden Blogspot. Tales from a Cheshire Wildlife Garden . and beyond. Saturday, 30 April 2011. Not that this has anything to do with my garden .but putting the event on my timeline is all part of the 'what were you doing then stuff'.well actually I watched the wedding, walked around a lake, had a drink in a clubhouse while celebrating 'that kiss on the balcony' on a big screen with a bunch of lively revellers.then had a curry with some mates. Perfect. Thursday, 28 April 2011. Apologies for...

Downland Views: I Blame the Weather

http://downlandviews.blogspot.com/2013/08/i-blame-weather.html

Musings of life in an area of chalk downland with its abundance of wildlife but only a few miles from London. Sunday, 4 August 2013. I Blame the Weather. Thankfully when we took my mother to visit a Lavender farm that is not too far away there were plenty of bees (although hardly any honey bees). I therefore decided that this year I would brush cut and rake the area of the field directly behind us before these plants went to seed. Here is a picture showing Superman Sean shearing a shaggy sheep in shimmer...

Our Very Own) Birdland. Welcome to our back garden in North Oxfordshire.and meet our feathered visitors! Friday, 17 June 2011. This Afternoon (During the Rain). We got rain this afternoon. Most of our garden birds disappeared to sit in the trees and bushes. But two braved the rain to visit the drinking/bathing pool near our back door. Batman/Batwoman.wish I could tell them apart! One or both of them is always on patrol, making sure nothing's wrong in their territory! Links to this post. Links to this post.

Our Very Own) Birdland. Welcome to our back garden in North Oxfordshire.and meet our feathered visitors! Monday, 30 May 2011. I must admit that I find jackdaws. Really creepy. But as they are, unfortunately, regular visitors to our garden (several at a time.), I guess I should add a jackdaw entry to this blog. Photos of jackdaws aren't easy to get, as they are spooked really easily. That's funny - they spook me very easily, too! Isn't that second photo a little chilling?
