It has been said that the great scientific disciplines are examples of giants standing on the shoulders of other giants. It has also been said that the software industry is an example of midgets standing on the toes of other midgets. I am doing a startup! Cross-browser testing from your browser! Closing the Gap between Business and IT | Ivar Jacobson
https://ivarjacobson.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/closing-the-gap-between-business-and-it
Closing the Gap between Business and IT. From almost the dawn of the age of software more than 50 years ago, there has been a communication gap between business and IT. For almost as long we have sought solutions, but they always seem to elude us. Meanwhile, the gap has grown into a chasm that now needs a fairly substantial bridge. Over the years there have been many strategies to close the gap, sometimes going from the one extreme to the other. Some have viewed the gap as a soft problem only: if onl...

Boiling A Frog: April 2005
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 19, 2005. I have just returned from a long weekend in Leeds and Glasgow, watching Terrorvision's last ever concert and visiting friends. In Edinburgh we met my sister and headed for Leeds by another train. The train switch was a bit hectic since the first train ran late and we had to run for the second one, only to find it hadn't arrived on time either. This scene was repeated in Newcastle getting to train number 3. The 3 of us headed back to Glasgow the next day, and met Derek (former stu...

Boiling A Frog: Masters Of Reality
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2005/09/masters-of-reality.html
Friday, September 09, 2005. Wednesday was the last day of my Masters course at Aberdeen. All that remains is the mark for my project, and graduation in November. The hand-in time for the dissertation was 12pm, so the fun started soon after. Lunch at the Bobbin, crazy night-time bowling at the beach, dinner at TGI Fridays, nightcap at Slains. Not much to report on from that night, just a last chance to have fun with the guys from the course. Posted by Steven Morrison at 11:55. Falkirk, United Kingdom.

Boiling A Frog: Last.fm Hoffed
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2005/08/lastfm-hoffed.html
Tuesday, August 09, 2005. I've been waiting for the new Audioscrobbler site to appear since Saturday, when they took the old version down. All of today the home page has said that today would be the launch day, but I didn't see anything change until just a few minutes ago. I'm not that keen on the new pink style, and the charts are harder to read now, but I can live with that. I've still to investigate all the new features, but feel that it's important to point out that they've been hoffed.

Boiling A Frog: Proper Job!
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2005/11/proper-job.html
Friday, November 18, 2005. After two months of relatively hard slog, I've managed to secure a job. It's with a very well known e-commerce company. I'm sure you know them. But I don't want to stick their name up for fear of being found amid search results. Trust me, this job will be AMAZing actiON. Posted by Steven Morrison at 16:51. Congratulations. You fat handed TWAT. Yeah I agree with him. Well done Spanner where abouts you working? The job's in Queensferry, so I've got to find some digs now.

Boiling A Frog: Familiar Realm
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2005/09/familiar-realm.html
Sunday, September 04, 2005. Since I've pretty much finished my project (the hand in date for the dissertation is Wednesday, and I'm just waiting for my supervisor to finish his final proof-read) I decided to spend a bit of time on my website, just in case I need to give the address out in interviews. So I updated the style, making it actually display reasonably well in Firefox. I also added my first assessment from the masters course - SilverStream. Posted by Steven Morrison at 20:30. Boiling A Frog: October 2004
http://rebootmenow.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2004. Pop Quiz, Hotshot. In the last two weeks I've spent just a bit too much time in pub quizzes. Last Monday I was at Key West (a wee pub in Westhill) for a music quiz, which sounds really good, but I'm only useful for songs in the 80's and 90's, leaving the earlier stuff for my parents to argue over. Next weekend I'll be back in Glasgow, to help my sister move flat, to go climbing again hopefully, and to see the kids I left behind once more. So look out! Sunday, October 24, 2004.

Monday, September 12, 2005. Another addition to my website: the QuoteEngine. It's a simpler version to what I did as part of the Masters group project this year, and is in PHP instead of Java.
