I began my practice in 1994 with a significant church extension project. Since then I have been involved in a variety of project types, focusing on domestic architecture but also designing improvements to community centres and utility premises. While the opportunity to design a building from scratch is always exciting, alterations and additions are equally worthy of careful design consideration. As we reshape buildings to serve changing needs, we can also conserve resources and reduce CO2 emissions.

A New Look Homestead Style. This modest sized four bedroomed house with two living areas sits on a small unusually shaped corner block that has an outlook onto two adjacent parklands. The owners wanted a house which was not going to look like a project home, or be an austere steel and glass edifice. A small 327m2 irregular site with laneway access is a unique setting for this two bedroomed house with attic studio, arranged as a series of internal spaces along a progression of external courtyards.

Around the River Red Gum Tree. This was an exciting opportunity to place two double storey townhouses on a long thin corner block. A magnificent remnant vegetation River Red Gum tree in the middle of the site had to be retained, as did a mature oak in the nature strip. The houses have become an iconic benchmark for the area, demonstrating that significant vegetation does not always need to be a victim of higher density developments. In addition to the inaugural project of my practice, which was an extension to St Paul’s Church of the Southern Cross on Dandenong Road, North Caulfield, I have provided other conceptual designs for a number of charitable organisations and community groups. Recent projects have included designs for apartment projects and holiday camp dining hall. I am also a consulting architect to the City of Monash on a variety of infrastructure, community and amenities improvement projects.

A critical aspect of this project was making the most of the north facing bushland outlook. The new family room extension was designed to open onto an existing deck overlooking the backyard. A large projecting curved bay is echoed in an elevated barrel vaulted ceiling with clerestory windows which creates a sense of space and drama. Stairs to the Side. This master bedroom and parents’ retreat had to be built with minimal disruption to the existing house, which had only recently been renovated.

This study was based on a fleeting memory I have of a walk through a field during this time, and one stubborn tree that refused to let go of the last of it's flaming red and orange leaves. Home Automation Project
The main brain of the system is an eMachines T2958 desktop running Ubuntu Server. Following that is an Arduino. If you're interested in taking a look. Although this portion is currently disconnected, at one point we had a DHT22 humidity and temperature sensor. After having the sensor hooked up in the bathroom for months I've learned it takes no more than an hour to bring the 100% humidity caused by a hot shower down to an acceptable level.
