Deborah Fisher: MakerThinker: To Joel... It's Still Not Craft, My Dear!

Labor Creates All Wealth. MakerThinker: To Joel. It's Still Not Craft, My Dear! First of all, I am in the market for a new title. MakerThinker sounds like software. Ideas? You vote that craft is. Makerthinking most of the time, and Leisurearts also veers in that direction in their thoughtful analysis of cooking v. cheffing. I would like to make a working definition of craft. That separates it from MakerThinking. Dragging out the word craft in this context is a tactical. But that performance art tradition...

Deborah Fisher: MakerThinker: Don't Trust Craft
http://deborahfisher.blogspot.com/2006/06/makerthinker-dont-trust-craft.html
Labor Creates All Wealth. MakerThinker: Don't Trust Craft. Dan Graham, Body Press (1970-1972). I haven't been very clear about this MakerThinker thing. I see from Serena's comment. That this could be misconstrued as an argument for craft. This is MakerThinking, and it has nothing to do with learning how to weld, although it can involve welding. The most expressive or smartest way to tackle a problem can really rankle what the craftsperson inside knows. Posted by fisher6000 at 8:00 AM. 03 June, 2006 09:50.

Tetroid is a Tetris clone implemented on an Arduino Duemilanove. And a severely misused Parallax 4x20 LCD screen. Three physical buttons act as rotate, left and right controls. It was completed for Joel Murphy. S Physical Computing class at Parsons The New School for Design. Tetroid is written in C. That's all I've got.

Deborah Fisher: MakerThinker Profile: Elizabeth Streb

Labor Creates All Wealth. MakerThinker Profile: Elizabeth Streb. Artist as philosopher. I buy it. Art is more than craft. But there is more than one way to think. This is the first in a series of meditations about MakerThinkers. MakerThinkers are not mere art workers, fabricating someone else's thoughts, and are more than art thinkers, whose skill is verbalizing their ideas for others to make visual. MakerThinkers stand outside the richkid/poorkid caste system. Posted by fisher6000 at 6:56 PM. Thank you ...
