Under the Radar: Urthecast, Spring 2012

http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/06/urthecast-spring-2012.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Sunday, June 26, 2011. Urthecast, Spring 2012. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The shunning of the dollar and the braking for peak oil. Two of the biggest under-the-radar stories of all time, especially if you live in the reality-free zone that is the US: the dollar collapse. These two basic problems are about to grab each other by the tail in a vicious circle. The price of oil and the supply of oil follow supply and demand. sort of. The p...

Under the Radar: The New York Times put up a paywall

http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/06/new-york-times-put-up-paywall.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Sunday, June 26, 2011. The New York Times put up a paywall. I don't know how to tell them this, but they are just not that important anymore. I used to flip through the NYT every day, but since I did't want to use up my twenty free views per month, I stopped. and after a few weeks, I realized I didn't care because there are so many other things to look at on the Net. Under the Radar: If you don't know, misunderstandings multiply exponentially

http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/04/if-you-dont-know-misunderstandings.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Tuesday, April 5, 2011. If you don't know, misunderstandings multiply exponentially. Genuine ignorance is. profitable because it is likely to be accompanied by humility, curiosity, and open mindedness; whereas ability to repeat catch-phrases, cant terms, familiar propositions, gives the conceit of learning and coats the mind with varnish waterproof to new ideas. Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Monday, April 25, 2011. Another reason to laugh at Microsoft. and shun them. Paul Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft. Has lashed out at internet. Rivals such as Apple. And described Google as "evil". He describes Steve Jobs. In an interview with the Sunday Times, Allen criticises Sergey Brin. http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/02/at-least-50-billion-planets-in-milky.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Sunday, February 20, 2011. At least 50 billion planets in the Milky Way! I guesstimate there will turn out to be a billion habitable Earthlike planets in the habitable zone of the Milky Way, say 20,000 to 40,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way. Under the Radar: This is much worse than the Great Depression

http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/06/this-is-much-worse-than-great.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. This is much worse than the Great Depression. GDP has returned to levels before the crash, there are 20 million fewer jobs. Also, since the dollar has lost say 20% against other currencies, I would say the GDP is still way off from what it was. If the dollar declines in value say from the current 73 to 50, then while nominal GDP will be 14 trillion, it will actually be 7 trillion. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://joelsundertheradar.blogspot.com/2011/08/audiblecom-bizarre-policy.html

Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Thursday, August 4, 2011. Audible.com BIZARRE policy. Audible is really great in so many ways, and yet. There is a bizarre Audible policy that says you can have only 6 credits at one time. After that, credits are cancelled. What the hell is that? You have credits that you have paid for, and they get cancelled? That is just plain theft. I think I should cancel my subscription. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Important things that might have just escaped your attention. Saturday, July 23, 2011. Thank you, Slava Turyshev! What a fascinating puzzle! I thoroughly enjoyed following your efforts these many years. I cannot imagine how much work you and your colleagues did. This project made me think about all kinds of possible effects that I had never considered before. And you have now constrained many values using a terrific instrument. Joel Smith - Chartered Architect. A reflection on my work and achievements as I continue to progress on my architectural career. Thursday, 24 May 2012. An example of a recent project to produce a hydrotherapy therapy for those with long term brain injury and dementia. Unfortunately, this is unlikely to get built, but was a very rewarding design process. The design seeked to create an "outbuildign aesthtic" whilst announcing it's presence to the wider site. Did it work? Tuesday, 22 May 2012. Visual apprec...

I love music so much that whilst most people are moving from buying CDs to buying MP3s or downloadable copies, I'm buying more and more CDs. I guess there is something about having a physical copy of albums by my favourite artists that just makes me feel like "THIS THING IS MINE! I will always be buying the physical copies.
