Green peppers stuffed with sausage
http://www.joelwilliamson.ca/cooking/2015/08/21/green-peppers-sausage.html
Green peppers stuffed with sausage. Aug 21, 2015. This one is fairly self-explanatory. Heat the oven to 350 F (175 C). Remove the casings from several sausages. Fry the meat, as well as anything you think goes well with pork. Finely chopped apples work well. Cut the tops off of some green peppers (one per person) and remove the ribs and seeds. Stuff the peppers with the meat. Bake for 20 minutes. A blog about whatever strikes my fancy.
Deep Fried Wings
http://www.joelwilliamson.ca/cooking/2014/04/08/deep-frier.html
Apr 8, 2014. I’m cooking the remnant of our chicken wings from Saturday. The sauce is a super-simple Buffalo sauce (mix a few tablespoons of cider vinegar into melted butter). When the wings come out of the deep-frier, I fry them in the sauce for a few minutes. On Saturday I decided against using the wing tips, but after some discussion I have decided to leave them on today. We have some asparagus from who-knows-when that I’ll be throwing in the fryer as well. Not sure how that will turn out.
Lasagne
http://www.joelwilliamson.ca/cooking/2014/09/14/lasagna.html
Sep 14, 2014. Dinner Friday was lasagne. I had been planning to make a lasagne all week, so I had many of the ingredients, but had totally forgotten the cream we usually use. As such, I left the recipe behind and ventured into the exciting world of throwing everything that looks tasty into the frying pan. Our biggest pot isnt quite large enough for lasagne, so it was quite a hassle getting the noodles in. After that, the noodles were straightforward as usual. A blog about whatever strikes my fancy.
Ox Cheeks
http://www.joelwilliamson.ca/cooking/2014/05/22/ox-cheeks.html
May 22, 2014. I recently got some ox cheeks from our local deli. This is a cut I had no experience with, either cooking or eating. It is very lean, with a small layer of fat on the surface and no marbling that I could see. Each cheek was around 1.5 pounds, and the minimum order was 4 cheeks. Upon investigating, all recipes (not surprisingly) call for either braising or slow-cooking the cheeks. A blog about whatever strikes my fancy.
Measuring Execution Time
http://www.joelwilliamson.ca/programming/c++/2014/04/12/measuring-execution-time.html
Apr 12, 2014. Measuring execution time is the first step in any attempt to improve program performance. Standard C does provide timing facilities, but they can be awkward to use. I implemented a wrapper that allows easy instrumenting of most functions. In order to preserve function semantics, I wanted a function object that has the same return type as the original function, and a. The constructor is simple:. Which failed because the branch is decided at run-time, but the. The solution should have been ob...

Monthly Archives: December 2013. A preprocessor hack to implement “with” blocks in pure C. Alright, everyone, get out your pencils: it’s time for a quick test on the C language. Don’t worry if you didn’t study; the test will be rather painless, and you should be able to follow along even if you don’t really know C that well. Here it is:. Johnny is trying to design a function to be integrated into the codebase of an evil genius. The function must meet the following specifications:. If the test succeeds (if.

Monthly Archives: January 2016. A simpler approach to functional programming. The issue is that. Type system will simultaneously be too weak to express some constraints and strong enough to keep you from getting your job done. There’s a fallacy in presuming that because Haskell (or more generally, any language) has some feature, it should be considered the baseline. No problem, we have liftM2. Reverse inheritance | foreign keys
https://rickystewart.wordpress.com/2015/09/26/reverse-inheritance
This post is about reverse inheritance. As far as I know, no popular language supports reverse inheritance conveniently. (I’ve been wrong before — if it turns out I’m wrong, and some popular language does have this feature, please do point it out to me.). What do I say when I mean “reverse inheritance”? Of the functionality of B, but not necessarily all of it. Here’s an example in a made-up language:. In this example,. And so it satisfies the. Interface; i.e., it can do everything a. But no other method.
