Joe the Quilter

Monday, August 15, 2016. Crazy City: San Francisco, 72 x 72, 2016. Last year sometime I opened one of my old- 1980! Quilt engagement calendars, looking for a quilt to show someone. The first quilt I saw, however, caught my attention and gave me an idea I have been pursuing ever since. The quilt is called "Crazy City, 1885," and is signed by C Winnie. I immediately realized that, living in San Francisco, I could also make a crazy city quilt. I've since made a few Crazy City quilts, like this one below:.

Joe the Quilter: July 2015

http://joethequiltercunningham.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Why Go To Finland? I recently went to Oulu, Finland, a beautiful town way up north to be part of a show of 8 American quilt artists called, "Quilt Visions." Since I was going, my whole family decided to go as well. We had a great time. The breakfast buffet at our hotel was a wonder to behold. No matter what you wanted, you could find it here or have it specially prepared. Most of the artists had a posse with them, so we were a large group. Here are most of us:. Why Go To Finland?

Joe the Quilter: New Lone Star

http://joethequiltercunningham.blogspot.com/2015/03/new-lone-star.html

Wednesday, March 18, 2015. All its flowers are in the quilting. Just last fall I finished this New York Beauty:. And a couple of days ago I got this Job's Tears off my design wall and onto the Handi Quilter frame for quilting. I have some ideas about the next few in the series. But now I have to quilt this new one. I better get to work. March 18, 2015 at 2:29 PM. Love Lone Star, and love the idea of completely fresh designs with vintage inspiration in mind. Well done! Joe the Quilter: July 2014

http://joethequiltercunningham.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 26, 2014. New New York Beauty. I am often asked about my creative process, something I often feel I do not even have. I mean, I am amazed that after all these years making things I still end up feeling like I don't know how to start a new one. For this quilt I started out where I often start: without anything in mind. This is my secret technique. I just start working on something whether or not I know what it will be. Sometimes I end up with a mistaken, misshapen, problematic thing...Somet...

Joe the Quilter: December 2014

http://joethequiltercunningham.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 3, 2014. What It Looks Like. I was invited to write about my creative process for a blog hop by my friend Judy Coates Perez. Judy makes some of the most beautiful images I have ever seen on quilts. Check out her cool work at http:/ www.judycoatesperez.com. It gave me plenty of contrast against the brown. Perfect. Now, onto the star. I had no idea how to proceed. Should I make large spikes? I wonder what that would look like? I asked out loud, and then I started sewing. The photo a...

Joe the Quilter: The Coming Wave

http://joethequiltercunningham.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-coming-wave.html

Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Everything in Bonny's sewing room is organized and filed, blocks, fabrics, magazine articles, quilt layouts and patterns, books and all. It is an archive. Bonny, sadly, will never make another quilt. She will never make another quilt diary entry about her inspirations for each quilt. Bonny's husband, Dave, asked me to help find a home for this fantastic archive. I am looking for one. It is possible I will find an institution that will take it. January 13, 2015 at 9:25 AM. I agr...

Summertime Impressions | Tangerine Key

https://tangerinekey.wordpress.com/2015/07/01/summertime-impressions

July 1, 2015 in Design. Summer impressions. Hot. Humid. Afternoon thunderstorms. Baby ducks. One of the mother ducks started out with 14 ducks. The other had 4 babies. I don’t know how many are surviving but there are still many babies swimming around the pond and hunting for food. Here is a photo of my first viewing of the swimming babies. And yes there is another reason I have babies on my mind. My son and beautiful daughter in law are one day away from the due date. I am so excited. A Stitch in Dye.

Fun, Fabric and Food | Tangerine Key

Fun, Fabric and Food. June 4, 2015 in cooking. I have never before been away so long from my blog. Yes, I have been very busy. I did think of a variety of things to share, but somehow the longer I waited to write, the harder it got. I went to the Florida SAQA. Conference (Studio Art Quilt Associates) and had a great time meeting other art quilters. There were art flags running over the bridge between the parking area and the buildings at FIT where the conference was held. A Stitch in Dye. And Sew it Goes.

August 11, 2015 in Dyeing/Printing on Fabric. You might think virtual worlds are about perfection, about having fun and being in the perfect environment in the perfect youthful condition. But even there things go awry. I can’t wait for Thursday as who know what will be going on and if I will be able to post anything then, so let’s just call this one Throwback Tuesday. In case you aren’t sure, I am on the far left. I can’t wait until I meet this sweetest newest member of the family. A Stitch in Dye. Augus...

Contemporary Quilt Art Association Blog: November 2014

http://contemporaryquiltart.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 16, 2014. JoeTheQuilter Cunningham shows his unique voice. San Francisco quilt artist Joe Cunningham at the Nov. 8 CQA meeting. Jules is a slut! This wasn't the opening line of Joe Cunningham's presentation to CQA members and guests at the group's November 8 meeting, but it was just one among many laugh-provoking comments that marked the San Francisco artist's highly entertaining program. (The pertinence of this line will be disclosed in due course.). This is Joe's "anti-medallion" quilt...

Tim Latimer – Quilts etc. Hand Quilting, Vintage and Antique Quilt Top Restoration, Gardening, Floral Design…etc. September 26, 2015. Sometimes (often) I start to do one thing and end up doing something totally different. So that being done it was back to unpacking. I still have a ton of stuff in boxes that needs organizing in the studio. I started on a tub of fabric and didn’t even get it unpacked before I got distracted by a new plan and started working on a new quilt top. August 13, 2015. Hobb’s...
