Not Economics: Evil Conservatives
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/evil-conservatives.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Monday, November 22, 2004. I've posted on this over at John Adams blog. Conservatives have a distinct separation between the political positions you take and morality. Many (most? Liberals simply don't. You are good if you believe the right things and you are bad otherwise. Now contrast this with liberals. Bill Clinton was notorious for treating those under him like crap. Same with Ted Kennedy. Look at how they treat women!

Not Economics: Europe's Anger
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/europes-anger.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Saturday, November 20, 2004. Over at the John Adams Blog. The new blog of the The Antient and Honourable John Adams Society. Minnesota's Conservative Debating Society, Publius writes. If you have not yet read Kagan's recently published talk on American legitimacy. Think about this. Who is the average European more angry at, President Bush or Saddam Hussein? So what explains this? It can't be that Europeans simply expect more from an Americ...

Not Economics: Oh yeah?
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/12/oh-yeah.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Tuesday, December 07, 2004. People who have enough kids for a basketball team are too busy to fight a culture war. I have a basketball team and I hope these posts ( here. Constitute my contribution to the fight. Posted by chris @ 12:55 PM. View my complete profile. Ldquo;I’ve Got An Idea!

Not Economics: Europe, Masculinity and Guns
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/europe-masculinity-and-guns.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Saturday, November 06, 2004. Europe, Masculinity and Guns. I don't own any guns but I'm against gun control. My European friends at work think this is crazy. Why not allow people to own anti-aircraft missiles or nuclear weapons? A bad thing. But the association of guns with masculinity isn't. (Feel free to insert obligatory joke about a gun compensating for a small penis. Finished? Ok, now we can move on.). Posted by chris @ 7:28 PM.

Not Economics: Winning Insurgencies
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/12/winning-insurgencies.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Monday, December 06, 2004. What makes an insurgency succeed? National Review (print version) has published an article by Alistair Horne on the struggle in Algeria against the French, eventually won by the insurgents. At first glance it is very depressing. Consider especially. This, of course, sounds disturbingly familiar. But is this the right analogy? Posted by chris @ 8:42 PM. View my complete profile. Ldquo;I’ve Got An Idea!

Not Economics: Feminization
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/feminization.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Monday, November 29, 2004. Western culture currently frowns on defining any virtues as masculine or feminine. A European economist friend of mine is in full ridicule mode (in a private email to me) regarding my post on Europe, Masculinity, and Guns. But there is such a thing as a masculine virtue and the elite culture is trying to erase it from our collective minds. Here’s my proof. Posted by chris @ 6:52 PM. View my complete profile.

Not Economics: “I’ve Got An Idea!”
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/ive-got-idea.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Tuesday, November 30, 2004. I’ve Got An Idea! 1) Invariably, in a Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney movie, during some predicament which requires money to be raised, one of them will explain Hey Guys! I have an idea! Let’s put on a show! 2) There is news. What do these have to do with each other? Hitler didn’t come along one day saying Hey Guys! I have an idea! Let’s kill all the Jews! To which everyone responded, Wow. Great idea Adolf! I’m n...

Not Economics: Zones
http://noteconomics.blogspot.com/2004/11/zones.html
The opinions of a research economist on everything but economics. Thursday, November 18, 2004. Previous posts of mine have touched on what does the religious right want? The recent Monday Night Football controversy highlights this. So what if a starlet pretends to throw herself naked at a football star? What are you, some kind of prude? Or racist prude since she is white and he is black? Are you to tell the rest of us we can't have skits like this because they upset your oh so fragile sensibilities?
