A Taste of Africa. Monday, February 07, 2005. The first elections since Charles Taylor's ouster have been announced for October 11. With the country still reeling from more than a decade of war, the new government will have its work cut out for it. Posted by Noah at 10:09 PM. Has this exactly backwards:. Posted by Noah at 9:39 PM. Gnassingbe Eyadema, dictator of Togo and Africa's longest-ruling head of state, has apparently died of a heart attack. Posted by Noah at 9:20 PM.

A Taste of Africa. Thursday, February 03, 2005. Zimbabwe is preparing for "elections" in March, and Roger Bate. Suggests that the opposition MDC should boycott this time rather than participating in an obviously rigged process:. Posted by Noah at 9:08 PM. I went to see Hotel Rwanda. Evacuate the Europeans from Rwanda, but Paul is left alone with only his wits to fend for himself, his family, and all those who have come to depend on him for protection. Which is awfully disturbing. Posted by Noah at 8:29 PM.

Sunday, June 29, 2003. I have managed to sort out accomodation much sooner than I hoped. Me and the three Brasileiros on the team are going to share a big flat on 24 de Julho Avenue, about 30 mins walk from our work in an interesting area: safe enough, but still in the heart of the city. Between us it will work out pretty cheap, too. It has quite a palatial living room and outside porch, plus two garages - pretty swank eh? Posted by Cameron @ 5:05 pm. Thursday, June 26, 2003. Thursday, January 31, 2008. We passed the year end at Nina's house, the neighbours gaily letting off all kinds of of dodgy fireworks from their rooftops in a happy display that reminded me of the safety adverts we used to get at primary school. Reminded me of what they said not to do. Posted by Cameron @ 10:25 pm. Comments: Post a Comment. WDM's page on Cancun. Database, Lda (where I mainly work). ISUTC (where I also work and teach). Friday, February 29, 2008. The fifth of this month will always be remembered in Mozambique. It was a kind of Bastille Day in which the people, for the first time in so many years, were able to make the single-party elite listen. In the western press the event was either not reported or simply mentioned as "food riots". Another knock-on effect is that they couldn't fill up the petrol pumps which set of a wave of panic tank-filling the next day. kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. Its a pity as this story ...

Friday, May 21, 2004. Finally making some progress, Darth is going to have a kid which will take him away from the battlefield for a while. The Mozambican team, which was rather raggedy in the first few weeks after the restructuring (many of the most experienced members moved into a new dept), is beginning to gel. Weather is pleasantly cool most evenings, with just a hint of cold some nights. Off to judo in 20 mins as am training for a competition in Joburg next month. Posted by Cameron @ 6:44 pm. Open w...

Wednesday, December 31, 2003. Posted by Cameron @ 4:04 pm. In fact, the drive (between Maputo and a farm we were staying at in Mpumalanga province near Lydenburg) was very pleasant both ways as the roads were almost empty - it seems that most people don't do their festive season driving on Boxing Day! Thursday, November 27, 2003. Nevertheless he scribbled an official-looking document and handed it to me. It didn't have my name on it so I was happy to take it, but I was well pissed-off at his complete lack of caring about waking me up. However given that he worked for the Maputo Department of Justice (or something like that) I decided not to make a big thing of it. Posted by Cameron @ 9:44 am. Posted by Cameron @ 9:38 am. Thursday, April 29, 2004. Just read this article on the ACM site, by a Boeing Engineer. It won't make much sense to non-techies, but it is spot on in terms of the bullshit that unthinking adoption of 'UML as a religion' can cause. Death by UML Fever. In particular its applicable to this project here, many of the 'symptoms' described in the article are EXACTLY the kinds of problems that certain bullshit-filled individuals have brought to Mozambique.
