Reconstruction of Flax Lane Bridge. Burscough, West Lancashire. Arch Finishing Works - April and May 2011. Once formwork to retain the wet concrete is fixed at either end of the bridge, mass concrete infill can begin. Screeding and floating to achieve a good surface finish. Very little grout loss through the units - river protected by Heras fencing panels supported on timber spanning between the top of the cut down sheet piles with an impermeable membrane overlay.

Reconstruction of Flax Lane Bridge. Burscough, West Lancashire. Demolition - December 2010. Demolition commences with twin excavators knocking the brick parapets onto the carriageway, loading the material onto a lorry for recycling and excavating through the surfacing and fill. Exposing the buried surface of the brick arch ring (the extrados). Balanced excavation from each side to maintain stability, note blue impermeable membrane in river to keep demolition materials separate from natural river bed.
