John Nez Illustration: Part 2 - How to run away to NYC to become a children's book illustrator
http://johnnez.blogspot.com/2015/07/part-2-how-to-run-away-to-nyc-to-become.html
Saturday, July 11. Part 2 - How to run away to NYC to become a children's book illustrator. And so continues our homespun tale of New York's newly minted immigrant. stumbling after his dreams. Having arrived in the big city with his duffel bag stuffed with illusions, ignorance, innocence and pluck. along with hopes and dreams and socks. Ah, New York. the city of True Egalitarianism. What a town! The days that followed were fun and alive. New York doesn’t let you dwell within too much. You c...I took righ...

Tuesday, July 28. Part 7 - How to run away to NYC to become a children's book illustrator. At last, the long winding tale exhausts itself. leaving the theatre empty and the lights gone dim. To those valiant readers who wintered over and endured the endless gales of verbiage, I offer my gratitude. And never a dull minute in New York City. New York always steals the show. Like the night at 3 am to be awoken by jackhammering in the street directly outside the window. JACKHAMMERING at 3 am? 2) One bright spr...

Wednesday, July 8. Part 1 - How to run away to NYC to become a children's book illustrator. Since my blogger's mind seems to have skipped a track - emptied out by the 95 degree heat wave we've had here, I thought I might take a look back. and put up kind of memoir to fill the time over the next little while. It's the story of my move to NYC to become a children's book artist. The pictures are from my first portfolio that I took to New York. Hitting the streets, I basically didn’t know anything abou...

Friday, May 29. My basic working method is simple. Basically my working method is simple - I sketch and draw and draw and sketch until the tabletop is covered with sketches. Then the sketches are scanned into Photoshop. and when the pile of papers on my desk looks like it's becoming a fire hazard I tidy all the sketches into a corner by the cupboard, and keep on drawing. It's actually quite effective. Bridge keeps track of everything else. Monday, May 25. Today's chapter of 'Draw It Quick! Friday, May 22.

Friday, December 31, 2010. Boxing Day walk to Cadgwith. Cadgwith is a picturesque fishing village nestled down at the tip of Cornwall, near the Lizard. A mecca for tourists with very un-vehicle friendly streets (unless you have a boat! We parked in the free carpark up the hill at Ruan Minor and with the dog bundled up in his new winter coat, headed off towards the steep footpath down into Cadgwith itself. It was a grey day with an icy wind to probe your unmuffled bits. Brrrr! Over the stone stile. The Or...

Monday, September 13, 2010. International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Yes, once again, it's Talk Like a Pirate Day. On the 19th September. A chance to dress up in garb piratical, practice your "Arrrrr! S and get some serious timbers shivered. Many take the opportunity to make it a charity fund-raiser and raise funds and laughs at the same time. And if you live in Cornwall or will be there on the day, the Cornish Pirates rugby team. Sunday 3pm. You might even see a decent game of rugger!

Monday, February 14, 2011. We went for a nice Saturday morning stroll over Gwithian beach. The swell was heavy and waves were breaking high against the lighthouse rocks. One poor lady misjudged the waves as they broke on the beach, and got caught with her little dog! She saw the water coming too late, tried to run for it.but fell over! The 'Better Half' surveys the scene. No surfing today, me 'ansome! At least the dog's happy, snuffling and scratching in the sand. And aptly named for it's appearance.

Saturday, July 19, 2008. Here's our sitting room before work started:. Pictures, long stored, have started to go on the walls again. It's looking more homely at last. Here's a portrait of me done in the 70's by my friend and flatmate Lynda, as part of a project when we were at art school. It's 20"x16" and it's now on show in my stairwell at home. I love it! Scribbly Cottage: August 2010

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Friday evening saw us at the Minack Theatre on the cliffs of Porthcurno. We were waiting to see a performance of 'Larkrise', a play based on the books 'Larkrise to Candleford' by Flora Thompson. After a wet and misty week the weather relented and gave us a warm dry evening. The performance was a sellout. We had eaten fish and chips at home so were full, but the lady sitting next to me opened a tin and took out a large Victoria sponge cake! We got offered a slice, too!
Scribbly Cottage: A Sunday Stroll
http://scribblycottage.blogspot.com/2011/01/sunday-stroll.html
Sunday, January 09, 2011. What a lovely change from the vile weather we've had of late. Almost spring-like and a perfect excuse to get out for a stroll through the Towans and down the steep path to the sands of Gwithian. Part of the old mine workings that dot the area. It was a steep scramble up here and I had to grab the dog before he launched himself over the drop onto the beach, at the top! The mouth of the tunnel/cave. Another intriguing shaft-like cave. I must try and find out about this area. View ...

Friday, June 18, 2010. I thought it was about time to christen the new bellyboard, so here I am at Gwithian, one warm summer's evening, suited up and ready. I wasn't sure what to expect; the ride was likely to be different to my floaty, foam Morey bodyboard. This chap was just checking I didn't have any pasties on me. And this one was just checking the seagull out. Hmmmmnot bad.not bad at all! Good so far, hair's still dry though; can't have that! Now if someone would just cover that pesky sun. It's almo...

Friday, August 19, 2011. Yes, it does sometimes! This summer has been a disappointment, apart from the early bit so when the sun does come out, it's wise to make the most of it! Looking past the lifeguard hut towards St Ives. I adore these firey crocosmia, they set the hedgerows and moors ablaze! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Elokuvissa olennaisena osana juonta on kuitenkin rahapotin voitto. Popin ystäville taas Lady Gagan Pokerface. Seassa on myös ikivihreitä klassikoita, sellaisia kun Ray Charlesin Blackjack.

March 3, 2018. Epic new sculpture arrives at the SAM. Yesterday I visited the amazing new John Grade 'Middletree' sculpture hanging in the lobby of the Seattle Art Museum. This sculpture is EPIC! It’s historic, scientific, ecological, recyclable, societal and just plain gorgeous and soul redeeming. Bravo Seattle. It's made of millions of little bits of cedar glued together by volunteers and community groups, so it's societal. Those ugly cars were hanging in the lobby for decades. I say keep it longer!
