John Shelley's Moth Boat: New boat

http://www.johnshellymothboat.blogspot.com/2014/04/new-boat.html

John Shelley's Moth Boat. This boat is done! Well, not quite done. Thursday, April 24, 2014. I had some friends up North ask me if I would build them a boat. These folks currently sail a modified version of the Classic Moth. The current boat they sail is a very heavy European dingy. They want a lighter more responsive boat. The hull of the boat will look like the mast head picture but the deck will be different. Boat on a trailer Building strongback on top, 3 sheets of 4mil Ocume plywood on the bottom.

Alberg 30 Restoration: Another ladder update

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2015/03/another-ladder-update.html

Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Finally, it's March! Good deal all around. They also fit and did the job! I also refinished the motor cover. I skinned the original with 3 mil Ocume. I'll varnish everything when I can get outside. March 11, 2015 at 3:52 PM. Now you need a nice Persian rug for the cockpit sole! March 11, 2015 at 7:51 PM. Actually, I am looking for a rug for the sole. Smart ass. March 12, 2015 at 7:38 PM. I read you like a book! March 12, 2015 at 12:15 AM. March 12, 2015 at 10:09 PM.

Alberg 30 Restoration: November 2014

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Last post for 2014. We decided to change marinas for next season and the new marina gave us a deal that we could not refuse so we moved the boat. Easy trip from one side of the bay bridge to the other. We were on the Magothy river and now we changed to Whitehall creek. This marina is at the end of the creek in a well protected cove so we decided to winter in the water. This is my curent project. A dingy for the Alberg. Aproching the bay bridge. Alberg 30 Restoration: January 2014

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 18, 2014. Bottom of rudder. Bronze rudder shaft with tapped threads. Pin in the rudder. The only attachment to the boat was the gudgeon at the mid station of the rudder and the pin that held the two together was worn in half. The plan of attack was to remove the rudder and see how to fix the pin and renue the gudgeon. Removing these screws became a big problem. The biggest screwdriver was not big enough! Gudgeon were next. Four bolts that came apart relatively easy.

Alberg 30 Restoration: February 2015

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 9, 2015. I'm also trying to refinish the cabin sole. The teak is like iron. I've gone thru two 60 grit belts on my favorite tool. The belt sander. Edges and corners get done with a multi tool. Works great. I'll keep hammering at this until I see better results. Sunday, February 1, 2015. Ladder in the folded up position. Alberg 30 Restoration: February 2014

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 23, 2014. Rudder's back on (With May update). Shane and I got over to the boat. Great day for work. Sunny and 60 degrees. I drilled out the shoe with an 11/16 drill. That made room for the bronze bushing I made from tubing I got at Fawcets. In the cockpit I made a new flange bushing out of a Delrin. That will serve as a base to reattach the brass collar. I also made a top bushing just because. Shoe with the new bushing. New pin in the shoe and a bronze washer. With the brass flange.

Alberg 30 Restoration: January 2015

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 28, 2015. I was at Bacons in Annapolis the other day rummaging around their back room. I found a folding companion way ladder. Just the right size. It's been around for a long time and it shows. I'll take it apart and refinish the teak. When it's done it will look like it came with the boat. Right after I got the ladder I put it in the boat to see how it looks. You can see the two folded up existing steps. The ladder is hinged. Both half's have 3 steps. This is the top section.

Alberg 30 Restoration: March 2015

http://alberg30129.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 19, 2015. Ladder in the boat. I got to the boat and put all the parts back together. The motor cover supports also got a strip of the ocume ply so everything matches. The feet holding off the ladder need some felt pads so they don't scratch but other than that this project is done. Saturday, March 14, 2015. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Finally, it's March! Coot, A Proper Yacht Tender. Friday, May 8, 2015. Finally got back to the Coot. I spent about 4 hours with the sander. Went thru 30 disks. But the results were worth it. Coot, A Proper Yacht Tender: Lot's of futzin

http://cootaproperyachttender.blogspot.com/2015/01/lots-of-futzin.html

Coot, A Proper Yacht Tender. Sunday, January 11, 2015. I cut all the seat parts out exactly as the plans called for. I was careful to get this right. Of course nothing fit. It's going to take a lot of futzing to get this back on track. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). John Shelley's Moth Boat. I'm a 65 year old retired civil servant.
