John The Tinker

I'm a tinker and a tool-maker. I like to make stuff, both for money and for fun. This blog will be my place to share pictures and descriptions of things I've created. I'll also include how-to information for some of the projects. You'll see some software, but mostly models of trains, remote controls airplanes, boats, and cars. Also, I have a 3D printer (FDM, prints in ABS plastic) I have been experimenting with, so you'll see some parts from that.

John The Tinker: April 2007

http://johnthetinker.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 22, 2007. Okay, I didn't build this one. I bought it almost ready to fly from Atlanta Hobby. Why the odd white triangles on the wings? My youngest daughter and I built this trainer together:. This kit is fully laser cut, and it was a joy to build. It even has laser cut lexan parts, including a little hook that holds the battery hatch down. I got the kit from SR Batteries. Every year, my flying club, the the Torrey Pines Gulls. Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Brass Strut for 1907 Firestone-Columbus.

John The Tinker: Brass Strut for 1907 Firestone-Columbus

http://johnthetinker.blogspot.com/2007/04/brass-strut-for-1907-firestone-columbus.html

Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Brass Strut for 1907 Firestone-Columbus. My father has a very rare 1907 Firestone-Columbus horseless carriage. He needed to fabricate two roughly 3" tall brass struts to prevent the rear bar that supports the motor mount from bending. We drew a sketch of the part, then I drew it up in TurboCAD Mac. The brass casting is on the left, the ABS pastic pattern is on the right. I look forward to hearing from you at your soon. March 23, 2011 at 1:05 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

John The Tinker: June 2007

http://johnthetinker.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 10, 2007. Okay, this is really something my daughter made. I just bought a Thunder Tiger Mini Titan electric helicopter. It was already assembled, but came with a boring white canopy and lame stickers. This is where my daughter Anna and her Sharpy collection came to the rescue. Check out the awesome results:. BTW, I bought this heli from Discount Hobby Warehouse. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

John the Technician. - A comment or two now and again.

A comment or two now and again. Formula Student, USM. Mindstorm Autonomous Shooting Devices. January 25, 2015. Remote Desktop computer access. Over time I’ve tried one or two different remote desktop applications but none have impressed me enough to make me want to continue using them. However the idea of accessing my home desktop machine from anywhere has become quite appealing so I thought I’d have another go. January 3, 2015. Recently I wanted to get a nice pocket size camera. I really dislike it!

John the toy shop guy « Toys, life and people

John the toy shop guy. Toys, life and people. What’ve you got for…. My last Christmas in the toy shop. This isn’t easy for me to write but I want to say something about it. This Christmas will be my last in the toy shop. For the past nine years I’ve been ‘the toy shop guy’ and I wanted to say thank you to all of the people who have made it such an amazing experience. I’ve already written about the strangely slow process in which kids grow out of toys and then disappear from the shop. Being a “toy s...
