Comparing B&W conversion methods | Linux Photography
https://jcornuz.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/comparing-bw-conversion-methods
Helpful stuff – I hope. Comparing B&W conversion methods. Although I have already blogged about it. Converting images to Black and White is a bit like the recipe of the Swiss Fondue. Everyone has his own touch to it and claims his way to be “the genuine one”. So I decided to revisit the subject (B&W converting that is, not the fondue) and try several conversion methods and see what results are offered. The methods are:. Simple desaturation with RawStudio. Use a channel mixer. Use the Luminance curve.

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. Last year I did plenty of great climbing and went on some very enjoyable trips, but I was rather left with the feeling that I had lacked a little bit of adventure in my activities. Whilst I very much enjoy pushing myself physically, the more adventurous types of climbing add a little bit of spice which I can’t do without. It’s one island, but the northern part is called Lewis and the southern part is called Harris). And Limpet Crack E3 5c. When we firs...

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. Easter snow and mountains. This being my first post, let’s get the awkwardness out of the way: I have decided to start a blog to document my climbing related endeavours. Mainly because I want somewhere to put my photos and an incentive to take the photos in the first place. So, to business! Back in November I did a winter skills course at Plas y Brenin. Here’s the platform of the summit station of the Snowdown Mountain Railway:. From Nant Peris, and th...

Font and Pembroke | The Send Train

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. This post is a little overdue, but I’ve recently had two mini-adventures which have taken me outside my usual comfort zone of bolt clipping. The first was a trip to Fontainebleau at Easter. I generally only boulder indoors for training, but going to Font for Easter sounded fun and we were lucky with some really good weather apart from on the Monday. More recently I managed to get some climbing in at the UK trad paradise of Pembroke. Which resulted in m...

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. Xmas and New Year in Albarracín. This year my girlfriend, Emily, decided that she wanted to go home to Melbourne to spend a sunny xmas and new year with her family and friends over there. So when my friend Brett announced that he was heading to the Spanish bouldering destination Albarracín. I didn’t take much persuading. View from a rest day walk. Not shit. This was right up my street because I had decided that after returning from Turkey. Unlike Font,...

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. Catalan rock and Gredos ice. The trip started near Tarragona, where I joined up with Chris Jorde who I met back in September in Rodellar. After finishing his studies in Barcelona, Chris has been climbing solidly since I last met him, and needless to say he was in good shape for it! Chris demonstrating exemplary belay technique… gloves, glasses, bright clothing for visual impact and nutella jar close to hand in case things get serious. In reality I thin...

It’s always the beta | The Send Train

Adventures of a climber who likes to take the train. It’s always the beta. After several failed attempts to climb an 8a sport climb last year I decided to sack off roped climbing for the winter to focus on bouldering. More strength and power would make everything feel easier and I was excited to find out what a full-on foray into the world of bouldering would do for me. Anstey’s Cove. I can think of worse places to have a project. What actually happened is that I got very frustrated and tunnel vision set...
