Taylor BenchWorks: August 2013

Where wood comes to life. Sunday, 4 August 2013. Salvaged Headboard, New Drawers, Nice Bed. I put some stain samples on oak and set them next to the bed frames so Tiffany could choose the colour. She went with the English Chestnut. Good choice in my opinion. The interior of the drawers will be finished with shellac. The shellac finish will not give off a volatile odour that soaks into your clothes. For a better look just click on the pictures. Just beginning to assemble one of two frames. You want a well ...

Where wood comes to life. Tuesday, 12 August 2014. Ah yes, elbow room. Everyone needs a little elbow room. In my case it's really separating the machinery area from the finishing area. The new work area will have work benches, a sharpening station and cupboards for the hand tools. This room will also be the area that I apply finish to the projects. Before when finishing I either did it inside the house or if in the shop I would have to curtail all machining activity. I call that class looney spoons.

Where wood comes to life. Monday, 28 July 2014. Fortune Cookies, Prophetic Script or Lucky Guess. A few weeks back on a night that it was my turn to cook dinner, I suggested Chinese. Off we went to our local Chinese food restaurant. All you can eat. I am more of a kook than a cook. After we ate all we could, (ever notice you are hungry again after about an hour with Chinese food? I paid for our meal and we each received our coveted fortune cookies. Oh goodness, my aunt must have taken a turn for the worse.

Taylor BenchWorks: My Writing
http://taylorbenchworks.blogspot.com/p/my-writing.html
Where wood comes to life. Wood beckons to us all. Wood is resilient, flexible and forgiving. It is inviting and warm and some times bears magnificent beauty. Wood embodys many traits that we appreciate. To be a woodworker one must realize that wood is alive and will give us its best if we follow it's lead. 169;Ken Taylor 2012. The Man and His Prize. He lays there in bed, no longer able to sleep. She is on his mind. Is she still there? Has anyone found out? He looks over his shoulder and is startled to se...

Where wood comes to life. Thursday, 3 April 2014. Hi, I have been quite busy around the house the past two weeks but I did get time in the shop. Does refinishing mean restored. No not really. I can show you the difference here. I can also show you why one would be much more costly than the other. No problem", I told him. "Bring it by". You should get something like this in the end. Beauty eh, the father sure was impressed when I showed up with them. He had been away for the winter and had just re...I hav...

http://taylorbenchworks.blogspot.com/2014/12/if-you-go-out-in-woods-today.html
Where wood comes to life. Friday, 12 December 2014. If you go out in the woods today. Last spring I made a nice find in the local forest. So I enlisted some help from Todd and we dragged five spalted maple logs out of the bush. If the logs hold what I think they do there will by many bowls in the my future. To the tune of 'oh what a lovely bunch of coconuts'). Oh what a lovely bunch of spalted logs, there they are a laying in a row. Long ones, short ones, some as long as my. blogs! Blogs from the Past.

Where wood comes to life. Wednesday, 17 December 2014. When my mind is a little cluttered I switch to things that don't take days and weeks to complete. Where wood comes to life. Thursday, 13 June 2013. Here is a story that was twenty eight years in the making. It isn't about making some lovely furniture but I am sure you will enjoy it. Some names have been changed to protect the innocent. Fast forward 4 weeks. Monday night came and the lump was still there and sorer and larger than ever. Shannon talked me into going to Emergency. Dr Ooh (again protecting the innocent) performed the ultrasound. His words were, " Oh. Oh boy. what is that? I was almost off...

Taylor BenchWorks: February 2014
http://taylorbenchworks.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Where wood comes to life. Tuesday, 18 February 2014. Yesterday my wife, daughter and I were sitting at the bar in my friends restaurant having a drink. It is my forty ninth birthday and we decided to come for dinner to mark the event. My finished work was much more important than I first thought. I feel humbled. I sank farther into my mind and pondered the following about life. I want to leave behind well built and comfortable items that can make people feel good for many generations to come. This wi...

Taylor BenchWorks: September 2014
http://taylorbenchworks.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Where wood comes to life. Thursday, 25 September 2014. And After the Seventh Week I Rested. It took seven weeks of hard work to complete the shop expansion and organize the machining area of the shop. Well I still have a few little things left but I can get back to building things. It is said that it took God six days to make our universe. On the seventh day He rested. Good thing it was Him because if it was left to me we wouldn't be here yet. I asked, "Shannon, what other annoying things are there?
