Cooking, one day at a time. November 26, 2014. Today I did the proteins – the turkey plus eggs for the appetizer. I also determined that all the guests eat meat, so that won’t be an issue. I’ve been reading articles about vegetarians and Thanksgiving, so it’s in my head. I’ve fed any number of folks along the vegetarian spectrum, and none have left my table hungry. However. Cooking, one day at a time. Curry and other spices. Curry and other spices. February 3, 2015. A few weeks ago, I wanted to make a curry but couldn’t find my curry powder, which was a commercial mixture. I’ve had bad luck with commercial curries anyway. I don’t use them enough, mainly. I cobbled together a mixture of cardamon, cinnamon, cumin, hot pepper flakes and powdered ginger. It didn’t taste totally like curry but it was pretty good. I used the combo plus black pepper on chicken and it was delicious.

We’re now in the days of. 8221; the intermediate days of Sukkot, when we are still commanded to eat in the sukkah, and wave the four species, but can basically do most forms of work. Cooking, one day at a time. November 25, 2014. This is just a progress report, but I am right on schedule. Last night, I made the starches – the stuffing and the sweet potato/pear dish. Neither are totally finished. I made the croutons for the stuffing by cubing a seedless rye loaf and toasting them in the oven. The only thing left to cook this morning were the onions for the eggs and onions (chopped liver without the liver. “The good parts” said my husband. It’s a family favorite.).
