Courting Coincidence (aka “networking”) | Tested
https://jonbox.wordpress.com/2010/10/13/courting-coincidence-aka-networking
Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. Laquo; Questions from the future. What happens at a real con-FER-ence. Courting Coincidence (aka “networking”). I spoke at a panel at Edmonds Community College today. It was designed to help students get ideas to increase their chances of finding a job. The other panelists tended to treat it like a resume clinic or job interview seminar. They missed the point. The point was *networking* — the ways people connect and relate to each other.

Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. Class, class, and class and STARWest. October 7, 2010. Just back from STARWest in San Diego. The hotel was great and so were the attendees I ran into. Well, it was easier to run into some mainly because James was in fine form drawing a mob around his tester games in the main walkway. Class was in session, even when it wasn’t. To me, that’s the mark of a good conference. Knowing the operating premise of the game, I decided to help him out.

Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. Laquo; Class, class, and class and STARWest. Courting Coincidence (aka “networking”). Questions from the future. I did a guest lecture today at University of Washington’s Bothell campus. It was for CSS 490 (“Software Testing”), taught by a colleague of mine named David Socha. He handed out 3 x 5 cards to the students and asked them to come up with questions for me about testing. Is it possible to work both as a tester and a developer? What a...

Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. Laquo; A man of auction. Putting Things in Context. In the movie “The Right Stuff” there’s a scene where character Chuck Yeager is barreling up to the sound barrier in the Bell X-1. He’s being shaken to bits from turbulence (transonic speed before 800 mph). Just when you think the plane will break apart, it breaks the sound barrier (goes supersonic) and all is smooth. The name of Pradeep Soundararajan’s blog. 8220;Good enough” depends ...

Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. Laquo; “Winning…”. It started with this tweet from Ajay Balamurugadas (@ajay184f):. 8220;I use Texter to write the steps for my bugs. Jing to capture screenshots. Brain to think new test ideas. Freemind to note the ideas #testing”. In that two-paragraph story above, did you notice there were 9 tools? It made me think about writing this blog. That happened for me back in 2006, when I saw someone using notepad, which I had used for years. ...

Test and Tech: Let's Test is just around the corner!
http://testandtech.blogspot.com/2012/05/lets-test-is-just-around-corner.html
Thursday, May 3, 2012. Let's Test is just around the corner! If anyone missed it, or perhaps simply don't care, there's a great software testing conference in Stockholm next week. Let's Test 2012. Somehow I ended up in the role of conference chair or conference general or El Commendante ;). Think I've used all of those titles in various places). And now it's about that time! Nah, think I'll come as myself today and not 20 years ago :). For those of you missing this opportunity: Too bad!
Test and Tech: I may call it the Bolton heuristic

Sunday, November 6, 2011. I may call it the Bolton heuristic. This is jolted down rather quickly and I will revisit it and edit it later. It's one in the morning here so it is what it is. This is an idea and we'll see where it goes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I think for myself! Tester, Test Manager. View my complete profile. Test and Tech: The certification experience
http://testandtech.blogspot.com/2011/06/certification-experience.html
Tuesday, June 7, 2011. I have always taken pride in the fact that I have no degrees and no certifications since leaving high school many years ago. I must confess that it hurt my self image and my rebel heart when I agreed to get a certification. My manager, who ranks at the very top as far as managers I've had goes, wanted me to get the ISTQB Foundation certificate. I agreed to do it. Why? There are several reasons for this decision. To me there is no value in completing a model unless I intend to use i...
Test and Tech: June 2010
http://testandtech.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 17, 2010. Documenting the easy way. I recently read Michael Bolton's. On Test ideas for documentation and was inspired. I thought about the points he made and the questions he asked and figured I could use them in my own way in a project I'm currently involved in. I had this in mind when I read a blog post. Many thanks to Michael Bolton. And to Pradeep Soundararajan. For providing the inspiration to think more about the subject and for the inspiration. Links to this post.
Test and Tech: April 2010
http://testandtech.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 22, 2010. I just a read a post by @siggeb. I put a question to @siggeb. I didn't hear anything from @siggeb. For a while. I had almost given up when I got a reply on twitter. I've met the man at Öredev the last couple of years and I know he's a nice guy and a thinking guy so I was looking forward to getting some kind of response. I did, and the fact that I had something to do with him writing that post is humbling and feels good. I've added a link to Sigges blog and I hope you check it out.

Software testing and random insights. Posts Tagged ‘instagram’. The Instagram vs Foursquare case. November 23rd, 2012. TL;DR: the Instagram Foursquare integration has a bug which allows users to checkin remotely and still get points, badges and mayorships when posting pictures. Roughly over one year ago at CAST 2011, I presented a lightning talk entitled “Bug or Feature: The importance of being context driven”, which explored some common bug or feature scenarios we often see here in Brazil. I said it was...

Jon Bach's blog, highlighting the humanity in software testing. My brother, the Tester. October 4, 2016. Sometimes when James and I do a talk together, he introduces us this way:. 8220;I’m James and this is my brother Jon. You can tell us apart because I’m the one with hair and Jon is the one who has the capacity to love…”. James may come across to “nice” people like me as being mean because we might think it rude for someone to put our beliefs and assumptions in the spotlight, because we do ...I think i...
