인간사, 세상사…. 화두의 제목이 그 내용을 담보하지 않는다. 그간 미국에 살면서 서양인들, 특히 미국인들에게 느낀 점이 있다. 그걸 이야기 하기 전에 비슷한 나라끼리 묵어 보자면 이렇다. 미국, 인도, 중국이 굉장히 비슷하다. 아무래도 큰 나라들이다 보니까 다른 나라의 상황 보단 자기들 중심적이다. 영국, 인도, 러시아도 서로 상당히 비슷하다. 아무래도 인도는 영국의 지배를 받았기 때문에 영국식 사고 방식이 주입되어 있어 보인다. 러시아는 미국과 비슷한 면도 있고 영국과 비슷한 면도 있다. 단, 하나 차이가 있다면 대체적으로 건방지다라는 것. 어떤 러시아 친구의 말에 의하면 백러시아 사람들이 그렇다고. 암튼 이 세 나라는 상대를 깔 보는 경향들이 있다. 제일 심한게 러시아 일뿐. 아무래도 영국은 해가 지지 않는 나라로 오래 있었고, 그 관성으로 아직도 가는 것 같다. 실제로 미국도 영국인들 입장에선 자기네 나라인 셈이지 않나? 지네 프로테스탄트/필그림들이 이민와서 만든 나라니. 이런 문제는 겉 모...

Brexit가 우리에게 주는 긍정적 측면. 미국인들을 보면 같은 나이인데도, 좋게 말하면 참 순수하고, 나쁘게 말하면 세상 물정 모르는 사람들이 의외로 많더라…. 그중 답답한 것이, 한국을 우습게 보는 이들… 그러다가 어떤 지식이 나오면 그래서 내가 그걸 말해주면, 어떻게 아느냐고 의아해 한다. 그러면 내가 그거 한국에서 중학교 화학인데? 그러면 내가 장황하게 설명을 하기 시작한다. 그러면 꼭 따라오는 대답들. 그렇게 교육 많이 받고 똑똑한데 왜 나라가 그 모양이야? 여기서 그들이 보이는 문제는 명백하다. 세상에 대해서, 세상이 어떻게 돌아가는지 전혀 이해를 못하고 있다는 거다. 국민의 교육 수준이 높아도 정치적, 사회적 문제에 대한 그들의 선택은 이기적인 생각에 기반하고, 믿고 싶은 것에 기반한다는 것. 저런 질문을 받았을 때, 도대체 어디서부터 설명해 줘야할지 난감하다. 인간사, 세상사…. Posted in 기독교 비판. 로마는 세계 정복에 욕심이 없었습니다. 오히려 자신의 역할이 피정복민들의 평화와 부를 유지시키는데 있다고 믿었습니다. 어렸을적 교회를 다니고 성경 만화를 읽던 나는 로마를 악의 제국으로 보았었다. 성경이 얼마나 역사를 왜곡하고 사람들의 의식을 잘못 심어 놓는지에 대한 한 예이다. 그랬다 성경을 통해 본 로마는 항상 제국주의적이며, 힘없는 이들을 핍박하는 제국이었다. 하지만 자라면서 알게 된 로마는 그런 제국이 아니었다. 물론 제국이 멸망하는 징조를 보일 때는, 바로 그 사회의 부패, 기득권의 무한한 욕심, 피지배층 및 하층민 및 중층민들에 대한 핍박이 벌어진다. 그건 예나 지금이나 마찬가지. 사실 성경에 묘사된 로마는, 지극히 유대인들의 관점에서 보여준 것이다. 그리고 로마가 사실 초기 로마의 정신을 잃게 되는 시점부터 아닌가? 그렇다면 지금까지 좋은 나라는 지구상에 없었고 앞으로도 없을 것이다. 근데 지금 한국을 보면서 드는 느낌은….

You’re at the best WordPress.com site ever. Very successful flight in this morning. January 21, 2006. Today, it seems to be odd and very lucky. For a few past weeks, my Cessna has been crashed, and its main wing has been broken. I found out that the angle for the main wing was quite wrong this morning. However I tried it. Ah…. I forgot that the down thrust was not fixed. After winding the propellar 150 times, I launched it. It flew………….really. really well. It also landed very smoothly. No more crash!
