On 1st March 2011 the SGS Weather Station was taken offline permanently. You can view some more technical information. The first generation station was a standalone battery powered datalogging system. It was built for a school project, taking around three months to design and build. Everything was built from scratch, the casings and sensors were either vacuum formed or CAD/CAM milled from HIPS. Built by Matt Brejza. Created by Jon Sowman.

Two weather-related projects installed and built at Sutton Grammar School during my time there and for some time afterwards. Their installation has been interesting and potentially useful to the D&T, Physics and Geography Departments. Built by Jon Sowman, Matt Brejza and Ben Oxley in around 6 months and extended and upgraded during the subsequent two years. Mostly pre-built kit apart from the antenna, installed at the school to automatically detect, pick up and decode APT data from NOAA satellites.

This section is for HAB related work and developments that are not part of the Apex project, for example work done with and for CU Spaceflight, of which I am a member. A quick high altitude balloon tracker knocked up in an afternoon for a balloon launch (Project Orion) launched on 07/03/10 from Churchill College, Cambridge. Part of the Wombat project by CU Spaceflight, using a Micrel MICRF112 ISM band 434MHz radio, uBlox6 GPS and Atmel AVR.
