Howard Welgus and Sandra Welgus. The Welgus family travels. Land of onion domes. Viking River Cruises was our only ‘big bus’ tour, and we decided that we are not ‘big bus’ tour people. That said, a river cruise was a nice way to see the country side and parts of Russia other than the 2 big cities. St. Petersburg is a friendly,walkable city that you could do on your own. It has less culture shock than Egypt, but still has friendly,welcoming people and great sites to visit. The cost is slightly higher than Egypt, but less undefined tipping. If I did it over, I would spend more time in Petra and spend a night in Wadi Rum. We did a private tour with a driver and private car, but he was not a guide.
