Balance - Joe Burton

The idea about fair and unfair came to me when i thought about balance. So I decided to make two paintings one 'fair'and the other 'unfair'. My idea was to use test tubes with liquid. I didn't have any test tubes so I used glasses instead. I thought it would be fun to paint glass. I started looking at some paintings of glass and I found this Magritte painting. I added in extra glasses so I could do two paintings. I added paint into the water so it would stand out. I chose primary colours.

I went to the TATE to see the Lichtenstein Exhibition and I chose him as my artist. I liked his action and war paintings. I don't particularly like the dots but the people are simple and cartoon like. I chose this image by Malcolm Morley, (Saatchi Collection) because I thought it would go well with a Lichtenstein style. Life drawing of a man with a beard. Life drawing of my mum reading and talking on the phone. The first sketch I did last year (2012). The other sketches are more recent (2013) and the last sketch was what I used for my painting. One minute watercolours of my family. This is a one minute watercolour of my mum. I used prussian blue on A3 paper. I like the hair but chin looks like she has a beard. Watercolours are difficult because you can't really correct them. Student at the Dragon School. Oxford.
