Bright Sadness: January 2009

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Friday, January 09, 2009. So I get a packet from my denominational headquarters. they are promoting a Spring/Easter campaign that they have been doing for a few years now. In this packet, there is a letter and a pen. Well, I'm used to getting pens in the mail all the time. It was a big ole fat pen with campaign title across the side of it. I just smiled and put it in my middle drawer where the rest of my ka-jillion pens rest. Sometimes it pays to be a pastor!

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. My good friend, Brian Blum, showed this to me. Very, very funny. Enjoy. Sunday, July 12, 2009. 8220;14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such a faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? Our confession of faith MUST...

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Thursday, October 28, 2010. Introverts in the Church - 3. 8220;Living as an introvert in a society and a church that exalts extroversion takes its toll, and shame cuts deep into introverted psyches that are bent toward self-examination.”. In my next post, I’ll try to summarize and respond to chapter four of McHugh’s book which is entitled: ‘Introverted Spirituality.’. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Thursday, February 19, 2015. The people of God is called to be today what the world is called to be ultimately." (John Howard Yoder) This is a bittersweet reflection of the church to me. Sweet because I love the sentiment expressed by Yoder and agree with it. The people of God should be a reflection or a foretaste of what resurrection life will look like. An atmosphere where life swallows up death? Where the fruit of the Spirit swallow up evil?

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Friday, October 28, 2011. Introverts In the Church 5.2. McHugh continues in chapter five with some ‘myths of belonging.’ The first myth he addresses is this one: more personality = more belonging. This myth suggests that the more extroverted and outgoing you are, the better connected you can get into a community. Community is linked to natural personality. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The VM Family Footprints: December 2008
http://growingvmfamily.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 28, 2008. Since my hubbie has given me another whole year's worth the reasons to love him, I tried to fill a whole weekend with birthday favorites for him. We started on Friday with a so-good-you-can't-stop-eating-and-need-to-unzip-the-pants dinner at Famous Dave's. My Dave loves BBQ, so we indulged in a feast of ribs, chicken and shredded pork (and cole-slaw, corn bread, corn on the cob and beans). What a wonderful husband and daddy we have! Happy birthday, Babe! Christmas Odds and Ends.

I am from a Masquarde. I am from a prison masquerading as a home. From no freedom and unspeakable abuse. I am from Robert, my dad and Kathy, my mom. From walls that heard what outsiders weren't allowed. I am from a family masquerading as Christians. From hypocrisy at it's finest. I am from church every time the doors were open. From fake smiles to hide the fights on the way in. I am from hour long lectures and sometimes just as long beatings. From near death at the hands of my father. But I am not dead.

Being a single mom of two boys w/special needs can be challenging, and I often ask God if He doesn't think just maybe He gave me a little more than I can handle. But, I wouldn't trade my boys for the world! Hopefully both boys adjust well to the upcoming changes. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. My boys are my life. What do you think? Asher Lee. Some days, that's all I have to say for someone to know what I mean. This child can drive me crazy! He is so similar to me, which is good and bad. One on hand, I understand him because we ARE so much alike. But then again, he drives me crazy because he DOES have my personality. He can melt my heart w/a look, but he can also get me beyond irritated. He daily is teaching me something new about myself and teaching me patience like I've never know before. Friday, January 30, 2009. Best Wildlife Day. Ever. Gray whales. Elk. Elephant Seals. Oysters. Birds. Deer. This is the list of amazing wildlife we spotted on our outing to Pt. Reyes Shoreline with Heather today. The day was beautiful with sunshine and blue skies and the ocean full of white waves. After a picnic lunch, we began our hiking at the lighthouse. All smiles on the 303 steps to and from the lighthouse. Ella helped get us up them by sounding an alert for every group of ten we'd just conquered.

The VM Family Footprints: Meanwhile, Back at Home
http://growingvmfamily.blogspot.com/2009/09/meanwhile-back-at-home.html
Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Meanwhile, Back at Home. While Dave and I were living it up on our second honeymoon in Hawaii, things were far from boring back at home. I can't emphasize enough how grateful we were to have Mom and Dad generously fly out and thoughtfully care for the girls for the week. What peace of mind we had knowing they were in such loving and capable hands! She was never sad we were gone and warmed right up to Grandma and Grandpa. I think I'm right to assume that the best times were t...

December 19, 2014. The Season of Giving. I’ve always looked forward to helping my community out, dating back to my time at Wake Forest. I remember during my junior year at Wake, I dressed up as Santa Claus and had the opportunity to go into Winston-Salem households that were less fortunate than mine. We gave out gifts and things to help them through the holiday season. Having been raised in Winston, that was a big moment for me. To give back to those people meant a lot. Mdash; Read More —.
