Predestination - Typescape

I watched a sci-fi movie called Predestination. Last night. Time travel. Paradoxes. Based on an old classic Heinlein short story. The direction was dodgy, but brilliant central performances made it worth persevering with. The only downside is that because I remembered the original short story, I saw all (but one) of the twists coming. Straight after the movie finished, I looked up the old story online to reread. It’s still great, but I think the film might be even better. On pigs and power.

Screaming into the void. There’s a plan to redevelop part of Glasgow’s city centre. As it happens, I think it’s a good plan, but some residents don’t like the idea of a certain set of outdoor steps being removed and replaced. So a ‘campaign’ was started by a local newspaper and spread as an online petition. Here’s what has happened:. I live quite high up. It’s foggy this morning, as the sun rises, and some of the distant buildings look like ships looming into view through the fog banks as though they are coming closer. Sleater-Kinney came back. This was not a comeback tour. This is a vital, angry, beautiful band with plenty of new material. The new songs fizz with righteous indignation. Corin’s banshee wail is as strident as ever, Carrie’s guitar twists the space between lyrics into something with a groove, and Janet’s drumming pulls it all together with a force I haven’t seen since Therapy’s Fyfe Ewing.
