Songs for my journey...: November 2012
http://songsformyjourney.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Songs for my journey. Saturday, November 17, 2012. That’s what this conference was called, but it’s about more than just that. It’s about facing all of our privileges and the power structures that we’re not even aware of – until someone gives it a face, a voice, a story. Who was not even allowed to sit outside an establishment where I was privileged to belong. And what about outrage over a system that makes it possible – even acceptable – for such disparities to exist? Monday, November 5, 2012. Things ab...

Songs for my journey...: February 2013
http://songsformyjourney.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Songs for my journey. Saturday, February 9, 2013. As I have more moments like this lately - experiencing aloneness as a space where my best self can emerge, rather than being crippled by my worst insecurities - I have hope that God is not finished with me yet, and that I will continue to learn what it means to be good alone. Songs for my journey...: Rooted in Community
http://songsformyjourney.blogspot.com/2013/07/rooted-in-community.html
Songs for my journey. Monday, July 1, 2013. What does it mean to be rooted in community? In a word –. That is what makes me feel most at home and most connected here. Yet it goes even deeper than that. The nature of life brings changes to relationships, as people move on or move away. What does that mean for community? The beauty of it is that community can transcend place, and rootedness is not dependent on particular people. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Tales of Oxford Circle. Let's journey ...

Songs for my journey. Sunday, January 30, 2011. But by the end, as his owner/best friend Emily Elizabeth is holding him and scratching him under the chin, she says "I love you, Clifford" - and he realizes, love is this happy feeling of being with people who care about you. Things that give me Life. 2) Celebrating - Being caught up in joy over the special and the ordinary is so important, letting belly laughs and ridiculousness work as medicine to revive the soul. 4) Walking aro...

Songs for my journey...: Letting Go of Control...and Learning to Trust
http://songsformyjourney.blogspot.com/2011/11/letting-go-of-controland-learning-to.html
Songs for my journey. Monday, November 28, 2011. Letting Go of Control.and Learning to Trust. But the truth is, I'm not in control. Let me repeat that, for myself: I AM NOT IN CONTROL. I can't control whether work will be slow or crazy or exhausting. I can't control the relationships in my life or my family. I can't control schedules (mine or other people's). I can't even control my moods or how I'm feeling most of the time. To you I give my life, not just the parts I want to. Your thoughts are higher th...

Eco-curiosity: Coal-thirsty
http://amanda-mcmillan.blogspot.com/2011/06/coal-thirsty.html
Passionate observations on food, farming, and wilderness. Friday, June 24, 2011. I was born and raised (for the most part) in rural western Pennsylvania. We lived in the coal mining boss's house in a worn out coal village. Though the coal mines have been closed for decades and workers have fled to cities for work, I grew up reminded of coal. After floods, our creek would be a swirling flood of orange - from iron oxide leaks in the mines. Unintended consequences. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Bo...

Make [food] simple and let things taste of what they are. {Curnonsky}. March 30, 2013. It’s the end of spring break here at WVU, and well, I’m getting ready for something New. Fitting, isn’t it, with Easter being tomorrow? I didn’t make any big plans because I knew it was going to be crunch time for me on thesis and end-of-semester things. And I’m sure glad I didn’t! I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet. But there are things that remain between me and graduation…. First priority has been my thesis defen...

Make [food] simple and let things taste of what they are. {Curnonsky}. March 18, 2013. I just wanted to share with you loyal readers a bit more about my experience at WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). I need to continue to develop my nutrition counseling skills, and I believe that this will come with more experience. In particular, I would like to continue to strengthen my ability in helping the client to share what motivates them to make change, and help them to identify ways that they could make ...
