Thoughts on Contemplative Christian Spirituality and the practice of Silent Prayer. June 24, 2015. I Hunger and Thirst, But Not for Christianity. June 24, 2015. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,. For they will be filled. Recently, I was sitting with a couple pastor-friends in The Oregon Public House. I’m a pastor. I like the Church. Is Jesus still relevant? Churchianity tells us what to believe before learning. Believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father. The Ch...

Thoughts on Contemplative Christian Spirituality and the practice of Silent Prayer. April 03, 2015. What's so Good about Friday? April 03, 2015. Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, Greetings, Rabbi! Jesus replied, Do what you came for, friend. Matthew records Jesus calling Judas friend as he is betraying him into execution. It is not freedom. It is mechanical and hopeless. April 03, 2015. Seeking God When God's Not There — Modern Monastery
http://joshuapinkston.com/articles/2015/4/23/seeking-god-when-gods-not-there
Thoughts on Contemplative Christian Spirituality and the practice of Silent Prayer. April 23, 2015. Seeking God When God's Not There. April 23, 2015. When I reflect on seasons like these in my past, two instances quickly come to mind:. Something Jerry Cook said years ago has been a guiding light for me,. God is always good. God is always Love. Always work backward from that truth. Eventually, I had an awakening: Why would God lessen then pain of our child dying? In both of those cases, I was stuck feelin...
A Spiritual Practice of Making Room — Modern Monastery
http://joshuapinkston.com/articles/2015/5/28/a-spiritual-practice-of-making-room
Thoughts on Contemplative Christian Spirituality and the practice of Silent Prayer. May 28, 2015. A Spiritual Practice of Making Room. May 28, 2015. With our recent move back to Portland, I’ve been thinking a lot about the contemplative Christian spiritual principal and practice of making room. Most of my life is centered on. Room Whether it be in my schedule, heart, ears (with music, podcasts, etc), and relationships (always busying ourselves, never sitting intimately together), the idea of. If I’m anxi...
Intimacy with God — Modern Monastery
http://joshuapinkston.com/articles/2015/6/16/intimacy-with-god
Thoughts on Contemplative Christian Spirituality and the practice of Silent Prayer. June 16, 2015. June 16, 2015. The practice of intimacy with God is something I feel passionate about, but find difficult to put into words. I think this is because it seems to be one of the least talked about aspects of Christianity. Without being actively intimate with God, our faith inevitably turns in on itself and becomes about self-preservation, which is the antithesis of Jesus’ spirituality. All things were made and...

Love | The Way Beyond

Exploring a more excellent way. Love. My day probably couldn’t have started any more. Than it did, outside of some major tragedy. When I came into the office, a faithful friend and co-worker, sensed I wasn’t doing well, so he asked if I was ok. All I could verbalize was that I wasn’t ok. He gave me a gentle encouragement to trust that God is at work in whatever is going on. Was also a source of encouragement. Her proposed theme comes from 2 Peter 1:2-8. Soon after that, God reminded me of Romans 8:28.

Exploring a more excellent way. Love. Blessed are the merciful,. For they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7, NIV. It was like Jesus answered my question with a question. How is it that the merciful are able to show mercy? I realized that in order to give mercy we must be able to identify with the need of the one seeking mercy. In other words, it takes empathy. Empathy is the ability to feel. Now, what about the second half of the passage? Grace and peace,. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Matthew 5...

Contemplative Christian Spirituality.
Being Still (Even When Life Is Not). July 21, 2015. Be still, and know that I am God. I think the majority of the western world is familiar with this verse. It’s so vague it’s generally acceptable. In my personal journey in Contemplative Christian Spirituality, it is where I began. When I first started practicing Silent Prayer, I didn’t know where to start. The Psalm 46 passage was a huge help; Be still, and know that I am God. Be still, and know that I am God. It is a difficult thing to do. I know it’s ...
