Father’s Day | thoughts along the way
https://joshuasiders.com/2015/06/21/fathers-day
Thoughts along the way. It’s been a very good day. I love being a dad, and I appreciate a day where I’m reminded of all the good dads there are around me. Especially my Dad, David Siders, and my Father-in-law, David Newman . What a couple of excellent men God has blessed me and my family with. Before becoming a dad, I didn’t know my life was incomplete. Knowing now what I didn’t then, there’s no way I’d ever go back. It’s kind of like this commercial:. Fatherhood. It’s a. Next post →.

Thoughts along the way. We’ve All Been There. Music To Write To. I don’t know what it is about music, but it gets me in the creative mood. And because I need regular doses of creativity to write messages and stay productive, I’m always on the lookout for good tunes. One that I often return to is the soundtrack to. Check it out on iTunes. My Problem and the Magnificat. I have a problem with the Bible. Here’s my problem. I’m an ancient Egyptian. I’m a comfortable Babylonian. I’m a Roman in his villa. One o...

Thoughts along the way. Recommended App: Echo Prayer Manager. I use some pretty helpful apps to get stuff done as a pastor, and I thought I’d share some of them with you. I work from an iPhone iPad but if you don’t, you’ll have to check their availability on your preferred platform. Need some help with jump-starting your prayer life? Or, maybe managing your prayer lists/requests? Echo syncs through their website so you can use it on a number of devices, including the iPad. Echo Prayer App Free.

Thoughts along the way. I usually posted multiple blogs throughout the day that I enjoyed and even save to Evernote for later reference. But I thought I’d just post them in one place to make it easier. Here are my reposts for today:. The Art of Manliness – How To Speed Read Like Teddy Roosevelt. Eric Geiger – Does Your Team Trust, Respect, and Like Each Other (and You)? Next post →. Enter your email address subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. Sarah Siders: On being a writer
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2012/12/on-being-writer.html
Sunday, December 30, 2012. On being a writer. I wrote this the other day because I felt like the words were taking over and it was hard to get the rest of my obligations accomplished. I imagine many writers have written words more poetic but essentially say the same thing. Being a writer is a troublesome thing. A strange well that must always be pumped. The rest of the time, you stand in the heat, in the cold, churning letters into words, pumping out meaningless sounds. You feel nothing. Things I Talk Ab...
Sarah Siders: Crazy For Love Day 6: Jessica + Ryan
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013/02/crazy-for-love-day-6-jessica-ryan.html
Friday, February 15, 2013. Crazy For Love Day 6: Jessica Ryan. Today's Crazy For Love story comes to us from the East Coast, and really, it started all the way across the ocean, in Madrid, Spain, just a few years ago. It's a love story from my friend, "Ica", also known and Jessica and the love of her life, Ryan. I remember when Ica was just getting to know Ryan, just letting herself fall in love, scary as it was. And we gushed across the miles, hoping the feeling was mutual. And boy, was it! I didn’...
Sarah Siders: Gratitude
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/p/gratitudes.html
I realize that thankfulness and gratitude are really good for me. I am a nicer person all around when I live with them in focus. Inspired by Ann Voskamp and her Thousand Gifts. This page is dedicated to the many happinesses in my life, large and small. I'll be adding to it periodically. Here I go:. 1 John David, my wonderful, adorable, full of life son. 2 Joshua Siders, my intuitive, inspired partner and servant of a husband. 3 Salvation - righteousness that covers me when I do not deserve it. 27 A husba...
Sarah Siders: Why we need all five
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013/02/why-we-need-all-five.html
Monday, February 18, 2013. Why we need all five. I've been craving curry lately. Spicy things: salsa.that's all I can think of. It's one of those times I wonder if I'm pregnant. Oh, wait. I always do. As I sat finishing my Thai yellow curry this afternoon, skin sweating just a little, nose on the runny side, I thought about what this biological urge for spicy might mean. And it reminded me the Chinese already figured it out. According to this article from PingMing Health. Heart – Bitter. The famous ancie...
Sarah Siders: Crazy For Love Day 5: Deb + Tom
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013/02/crazy-for-love-day-5-deb-tom.html
Thursday, February 14, 2013. Crazy For Love Day 5: Deb Tom. Today is Day 5 of 7 in our Crazy for Love series. I chose this Crazy For Love submission from Deb for Valentine's Day because I think this couple is an excellent example of what it means to love each other for life. And not just that. They let their love overflow into the lives of others. Many of my friends and I have benefited from Tom and Deb's fun-loving, playful, God-centered relationship. Let me introduce to you: Tom and Deb. Five tenets of...
Sarah Siders: Crazy For Love Day 4: Cris + TJ
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013/02/crazy-for-love-day-4-cris-tj.html
Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Crazy For Love Day 4: Cris TJ. Today's Crazy For Love story shows a determined kind of love. It's a love story between two Soldiers, which withstood the test of years of service to our country. Our submission is from Cris, who makes no fanfare of her and her husband's loyalty to our nation, but we can appreciate the strength of their love knowing the pressure and transition it withstood. Let me introduce to you our Crazy For Love story of the day: Cris and TJ. Social Worker,...
Sarah Siders: February 2013
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Making bread and other tranquil things. I got one of those ideas in my head a couple weeks ago. I wanted to make bread. I could see myself quietly kneading the dough, rolling in the yeast, slowly, methodically, rhythmically. Connecting with an ancient tradition. It seemed so lovely. Josh told me we had yeast, which I didn't think we had. It stressed me out a little to know that because that meant I really had no obstacles between me and the bread-making fantasy. Tonight my f...

Saturday, February 16, 2013. Crazy For Love Day 7: Lindsey Ryan (and the whole family). Today is our last day of the Crazy For Love series. It's a story sent in by Lindsey, mom of two littles and the wife of Ryan. She lives her dream out at Beyond Motherhood. Recording the moments of parenting two kids less than two years apart. I admit I don't know how she does it. Our daughter Sarah, who is full of curiosity, spunk, and a healthy dose of drama. This concludes our wild week of Crazy For Love. Let's live...
Sarah Siders: Writing
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/p/writings.html
I've been writing for a while. Since childhood, in fact. It started with half-finished, scribbled fiction manuscripts shoved under my twin bed back in Portland. Now I've pulled out my work from under the bed, scared as it is to be out here. Here are few places to catch my smatterings in cyberspace:. Where I'm Writing Now:. The Siders House Rules. On life, God, family and other things, since 2008. Pieces on the pain and beauty of mercy and hope. On the value and preservation of life. On Being a Writer.
Sarah Siders: Five tenets of a pro-life advocate
http://sidershouserules.blogspot.com/2013/02/five-tenets-of-pro-life-advocate.html
Saturday, February 2, 2013. Five tenets of a pro-life advocate. This post is published at Live Action News. In Portland, Oregon, in 1981, j ust eight short years after Roe vs. Wade passed,. I was born to two fervent pro-life activists. In high school and college, I wanted my turn fighting on the balance beam of life and death. But in my college town, there was (thankfully) no abortion clinic to protest. Where did I belong? During college I studied social work, and after a few years in the field, my advoc...

DCM: C.S. Lewis
DCM: C.S. Lewis. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Before taking this class, I have never read C.S. Lewis’s writings before. However, I have watched the Chronicles of Narnia’s movie, and it admires me. So I decided to take the class of C.S. Lewis. Lewis writings are really hard for me to read. For I am not a native speaker, my English is not good. Lewis writes his writings which look like poetry, which make it harder for me to read. The sexual impulse and looking at it. Lewis talks about the world being unfai...
