Life resumes after Sandy (Sunset Park, Brooklyn). Someone has strung up a dead chicken outside a vacant lot next to a fancy mall in the north of Kunming. Every spring and fall, Siberian red-beaked seagulls converge on Green Lake (Cuihu), where passersby can hold out food to be snatched by the birds mid-flight. Mushrooms at a market near Yuantong St. in Kunming. Our room at Laomadian guesthouse in Shaxi. A dish of fried purple potatoes, at a roadside restaurant near Jianchuan.
