I joined Nordstrom for 4 years following seminary and learned ever so much, particularly about leading and about following. I moved around, leaving Pittsburgh for Cincinnati, then Indianapolis, then Detroit, then back to Chicago where I did my undergraduate studies. But life took a turn due to some friends and their wisdom. I resigned my position, looking toward PhD studies and something more matching my degrees and interests. One thought on “ my.story. Dietrich Bonhoeff...

I preached this at Kowloon Union Church this morning. 8220;A Lenten Sermon”. Abraham J. Peterson. Fifth Sunday in Lent. I’m not really one for sermon titles. I thought really long and struggled really hard about today’s, so I hope that you enjoy It’s called A Lenten Sermon. Because it’s a sermon. I bring greetings from Jan from Norway. He’s discerning next steps and will likely be doing some mission work, so you can pray for him! Grace and peace to you all. This is where we some of us find ourselves....

SERMON: I preached this sermon at Kowloon Union Church on 22 June… feel free to take a gander! Proper 7; 12. Sunday in Ordinary Time; 2. Genesis 21:8-21, Romans 6:1b-11, Matthew 10:24-39. Do you ever get scared of what’s in the Bible? Do things written in this Holy book ever frighten you for how evil they are? Do you ever wonder how some things ever made it in and if they’re actually true? Do some verses or stories lead you to disbelief? But these verses from Genesis today are like that for ME. Barrennes...

SERMON: This sermon was initially preached at Lutheran Theological Seminary for Morning Prayer on 17 November 2014. It’s confession time…. I am totally cheating on these verses – I am using the Ezekiel verses that I shouldn’t. AND I’m using the Matthew verses for later this week, which I shouldn’t. Oops. Sorry. So… another confession…. S0000… I’m not really going to talk about sheep or goats. Is that okay? Okay, one more confession…. I have mis-read these verses, I feel, for quite a long time. This is PU...

SERMON: This sermon was preached at Kowloon Union Church on 22 September 2014. Proper 19 – After Pentecost. Exodus 15:1b-11 and Matthew 18:21-35. Today is one of the most intriguing days of the year. It is a day of strange lectionary texts. We chose the semi-continuous texts but even in the complimentary texts, it’s interesting. Today’s texts, no matter which part of the lectionary, are dealing with forgiveness. Destruction of enemies and forgiveness. God is a warrior Jesus says forgive. God kills everyo...

Sing dan fai lok! But first, a few highlights from my year…. Hong Kong is very special. After they left, life began again at the school; shortly thereafter it was my 32nd birthday. My present was a bit delayed, but it came in the form of an old, dear friend visiting HK to speak at a Justice Conference. Shane and I had some time to share about life and reconnect, with the hope of seeing each other again in Philadelphia when I returned stateside. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. SERMON: This sermon was initially preached at Kowloon Union Church on 14 December 2014, the 3rd Sunday of Advent and Feast of St. John of the Cross. It was also broadcast on RTHK and can be found here:. Http:/ programme.rthk.hk/channel/radio/programme.php? Name=radio4/churchservice&p=629&d=2014-12-14&m=episode. Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11. Mary doesn’t get enough press, you know? At least not in the Protestant world. What’s up with that? She’s an astonishing Advent figure. As is her nephew, John the Baptiser.
