Blog in the Shire. Thursday, January 5, 2012. Skipping Stones and Surfing on the Ripples. Instead what really went down, was there was a bit more squeezing of life into what remained of 2011. I admit it, I'm a glutton when it comes to squeezing that last drop out. (It's a good thing for me, that Jesus hangs out with peeps like that.). I Love. Grapefruit. And I love whoever invented the grapefruit spoon. Have you ever noticed that when you scoop out grapefruit it sounds like a kiss? Now go have a good day!

Blog in the Shire: November 2011
http://blogintheshire.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Blog in the Shire. Tuesday, November 29, 2011. So I didn’t exactly get to that second bottle of champagne the other day, which on one hand is obviously sad because I had really exciting stuff to say, but on the other hand was probably good because I had to drive home from Toronto later that day. Besides the obvious—slurring really good news—drinking and driving is just so freaking stupid it’s ridiculous. Instead of being stupid I like to drink this. But I digress…onto the bling and pop. Anyway, so to sum...

Blog in the Shire. Thursday, July 22, 2010. Previously, in my post entitled " My Brain is, and I quote, 'OK'. I reported that my recent MRI came back without finding any "bad" causes for my recent diagnosis of dizziness and, ahem. giddiness. Anyway, so I went to my ENT. I asked him if I could blame it on the chemo. He said, "Probably not." Drat. I asked him if I could blame it on "the Vespa incident". He said, "Probably not." Double drat. He sent me to an audiologist to do further testing. Again, the fol...

Blog in the Shire. Sunday, September 11, 2011. I remember the sun was shining;. That still amazes me when I think back. To the edge of where I sat, reclining. While the silver lining became a crack. And I watched the sky fall on my TV. I remember my kids were doing math. When the phone rang. I heard our world changed. We. Chanted “Our Father” and tried to do the math. With wet eyes, in front of the TV set- glue. Held us fast. (But the math didn’t last long.). I remember my kids building Legos, too.

Blog in the Shire: August 2010
http://blogintheshire.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Blog in the Shire. Saturday, August 21, 2010. This August has been like pink cotton candy. It has been on the tip of my blog's tongue many times. But then it melts, seeps into my bloodstream giving me that sugar buzz, leaving little traces of itself in the sweet aftertaste. Yesterday was my D-day. Two years ago my breast surgeon said the C-word. So really, it is quite the brilliant segue if you don't try to think about it too hard but just let it melt and go sub-cranial. The first year of cancer and chem...

In February 2011, I was diagnosed with Stage IIIB Breast Cancer, four months after being deployed to Afghanistan. Leaving my troops and my unit behind was and still is harder to deal with than my breast cancer diagnosis. The feelings that I abandoned and deserted them and wasn’t able to ensure that they were sa...
