Bart Rankin: me and my big mouth
http://bartrankin.blogspot.com/2011/02/me-and-my-big-mouth.html
Blog for Journalism as Conversation. Sunday, February 13, 2011. Me and my big mouth. Next time I write a letter to the editor, it's gonna be about helping old ladies across the street or something. Either a topic that is easy to do, or hard to check if I did it or not. So today I went out to clear the storm drain in the street across from my house. Turned out the snow bank was up to my ribs. A couple of hours later, I found it. Luckily, there was a reward:. A river runs through it. And this is Fresh Air.

Bart Rankin: Submit to the current theme
http://bartrankin.blogspot.com/2011/04/submit-to-current-theme.html
Blog for Journalism as Conversation. Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Submit to the current theme. For my user generated content assignment, I submitted a picture to Pictory. Unfortunately, the topic won't close until after this class is over, so I won't be able to find out if they selected my photo or to see any feedback which is a little disappointing. And Platonic Love Stories. Themes. Setting up my account was as easy and fast as I could have hoped for. When looking at the Themes open for submission. So I fi...

Bart Rankin: Conversation
http://bartrankin.blogspot.com/2011/05/conversation.html
Blog for Journalism as Conversation. Wednesday, May 4, 2011. It is appropriate that my final assignment of my undergraduate career at UMass is a post about comment culture. My whole degree is about communication of one form or another. Another highlight of the class was getting my “letter” (actually Facebook comment) read on the radio show “Only A Game”. It wasn’t an assignment, but I still really enjoyed it. Places I will continue the online conversation: Twitter, Wikipedia and sports call-in shows....

Bart Rankin: Pictory
http://bartrankin.blogspot.com/2011/04/pictory.html
Blog for Journalism as Conversation. Tuesday, April 12, 2011. For my UGC, I submitted a photo and story to Pictory. I don't have a link for it yet because I'm waiting to hear back from the editor, so I put it up on my Flickr page. I was visiting my best friend Mark shortly after he and his wife lost their daughter. They had been foster parents to her with the intention of adopting, from three days old to 17 months, when the state gave her back to the meth-addicted birth mother. Submit to the current theme.

The Axe Factor: JOURNALISM 392W - Race Preview
http://theaxefactor.blogspot.com/2010/11/journalism-392w-race-preview.html
Tuesday, November 2, 2010. JOURNALISM 392W - Race Preview. This year almost every political race has some intriguing element. Whether it's vicious biting attack ads and wildly untrue accusations. Or the potential to drastically change the political landscape, these mid-term elections have become a truly tumultuous affair. While the eye of the nation seems to be focused on some of the more deciding or outrageous examples. I think we are having a very interesting race right here in Massachusetts. Meaghan's...

The Axe Factor: JOURNALISM 392W - Congressman Neal Profile
http://theaxefactor.blogspot.com/2010/10/journalism-392w-congressman-neal.html
Monday, October 18, 2010. JOURNALISM 392W - Congressman Neal Profile. I’m not quite sure who Richard Neal is. I know he represents the Springfield area in the United States Congress. I know he has been a grade school teacher in the past, and is a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. And I know his history of supporting his constituents, their city, and their various causes, has made him well liked as a politician. But I don’t think I really know who he is. A couple weeks ago I got to do ...

The Axe Factor: December 2010
http://theaxefactor.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 6, 2010. Christmas Is Not Dead: A Revelation at Yankee Candle. Somehow I always manage to side with the optimist in me, but not without the bitter aftertaste left by all the consumption of stuff. Well I’m tired of that aftertaste. I wanted to know one way or another if Christmas really has wholesome meaning, or if it truly has been lost in the torrent of commercials and jingles that we are drowned in during the last two months of every year. http://theaxefactor.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 29, 2010. JOURNALISM 392W - Dancing with the Stars Elimination week 2. Well week two of Dancing with the Stars is over, and another contestant has been voted off the stage. To anyone who watched, it was really no surprise at all. Bolton only got 12 out of the 30 possible points. He followed the elimination last week of David Hasselhoff, who performed almost as badly. Hasselhoff was able to secure 15 points. Posted by Axe Faktor. Monday, September 27, 2010. Posted by Axe Faktor. Richa...
