Today at mass, after communion we heard a lovely, soulful piano rendition of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” It is a good thing that my mascara is waterproof. Images filled my head — the juxtaposition of the attitudes and beliefs of various family members clashed with each other and with society. Some days I want to take this state, its people and its government, and just shake it and holler “You are better than this!

Kaufman’s Nana Bread | Just Lookin'

Kaufman’s Nana Bread. Mar 12, 2014. Prep Time: 10 minutes. Cook Time: 1 hour. Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes. Yield: 1 regular loaf. 1/2 c shortening (I now use Coconut Oil - works wonderfully). 2 c pre-sifted flour. 1 tsp baking soda. 1 c mashed bananas (the rottener the better! And a bit more than 1 cup works as well). 1 Tbsp crunchy Peanut Butter. Cream shortening (coconut oil) and sugar. Beat in the eggs. Sift together flour and baking soda. Add flour mixture to egg mixture and beat until creamy.
