Forever in First: July Reads
http://foreverin1st.blogspot.com/2015/08/july-reads.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. My summer reading slowed down a bit in July. Here you go. This one was so-so for me. This book surprised me. I had no idea it was a graphic novel. I really enjoyed this read. There's speculation that there might have been a woman pope back in the day. This is a helpful read for those looking to know more about guided math. This book was great. I feel like I can use literature in a more authentic mathematical way now. I really didn't like this book. Sorry. August 2, 2015 at 7:39 PM.

Forever in First: September 2014
http://foreverin1st.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2014. I typically do a terrible job of reading as much as I'd like once school starts. I've been determined to fix that. So far, so good. Here are my September reads. I'd highly recommend many of these, so do check them out or put them on your list when you can track down some extra reading time. This one is kind of magical and kept me wondering to the very end. This was one of my favorites of the month. It's so very clever. Links to this post. Saturday, September 27, 2014. I have ...

Forever in First: Teacher!
http://foreverin1st.blogspot.com/2015/08/teacher.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2015. It seems there are a million things I need to say on the first day of school, but I save only the most important for day one, knowing I'll get to the rest as soon as I can. For sure though, my kids will get the my-name-isn't-teacher talk. Granted, this isn't a life or death issue, but learning names is a life skill. And seriously, no matter how young, I think students should be expected to use their teacher's name. Hearing the word "Teacher! PS Anyone else annoyed by this?

I'm tweaking it a bit to share the 10 things I've learned from teaching kindergarten, I'm sure you won't mind. Here we go. 1 No matter how patient, kind and gentle you are. a kindergartener will show you one day that you are not. Kindergarteners taught me real patience, kindness, gentleness, love and understanding. 3 I can create a song/lyric/dance/ or chant to explain anything.

Forever in First: October 2014
http://foreverin1st.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2014. A Book Making Tip. Since my kids love our classroom books as much as they do, I have to make them as durable as I can without draining my time and the school's money by laminating them. Here's one way I do that. Obviously this book isn't bound yet.). I try to mix up the look of my books in size, shape, color, and the way they're made. For example, the book above is actually quite small. If you'd like to see another way I make books, look. Links to this post. I found myself thin...

Forever in First: Saturday Sayings: Math Immersion
http://foreverin1st.blogspot.com/2015/08/saturday-sayings-immersion.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. Saturday Sayings: Math Immersion. Reading Recovery training taught me to be mindful of the print-rich environment I surround my students with. They need to see, hear, and experience words at every turn. Cambourne calls it immersion, and that's exactly what I hope my young literacy club members experience in my room. I've never thought about immersing my students in numeracy though. I'm not even completely sure what that looks like, but I'm interested in finding out. Barb, math i...

Conversations in Literacy: What Will You Read This Summer?
http://conversationsinliteracy.blogspot.com/2015/06/what-will-you-read-this-summer.html
What Will You Read This Summer? A time for teachers to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate. But like most teachers, for me it is also a time for me to work on my craft. Build my skills. Find new ideas. Stoke the fire again for my passion. I thought I would share some professional resources that you might like. Some are books I've already read, some are books I have to be read and some I am wanting to read. I am hearing a lot of buzz about this book! Did you find it helpful? I love this book! What will YOU be...
