House Moore

Located below the Twelve Apostles in Camps Bay with spectacular views of the mountain and sea, the building is specifically designed to maximise the very dramatic views. The solid walls are treated as screening devices blocking out unwanted views into and out of the house. The roof of two flat floating elements with narrow glazing all around, presents views of the mountain even from deep within the house, as well as allowing ample winter sun in while blocking the summer heat. The site is located in Kommetjie, near Cape Town. The development consists of 98 middle income houses, as well as a number of high income plots. The higher density units are designed around a system of semi-private landscaped courts, with private gardens behind. Being located on the urban edge, indigenous landscaping is considered paramount. The building is located opposite the main Community hall. The Urban Design intention is to complete the square between the hall and the library. As such the main organising element is a light roofed colonnade not only providing a covered link to the Library but also creating an entrance to the square, as well as closing off the remaining undefined edge of the square. This is a development of 27 houses in Milkwood, near Noordhoek in Cape Town, There are a number of single and double storey units that were designed to fit on any site in the development, depending on the purchaser’s requirements. The units are so placed as to afford every unit views over and between the houses to the sea and the surrounding mountains. The construction of this development, which includes a range of bachelor, one- and two- bedroom social rental housing units, commercial units, restaurants, perimeter security, private and public court yards and parking, has recently been completed.
