Seeing: August 2005

http://ajager.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 10, 2005. Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery. I know that we're supposed to pick one of the photographs in Freeman Patterson's book "Photograpy and the Art of Seeing"say why we like it and try to use the techniques ourselves, but I'm picking two. Not terribly successful, I know, as there is not enough foliage in the foreground to make it as abstract as the original, but this is a technique I'm looking forward to trying much more. Purely as an addendum, I want to add this shot.

Seeing: July 2005

http://ajager.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 30, 2005. Finding a Rule to Break. It would seem that there is a wealth of motion-blur shots now, the overwhelming majority being very interesting indeed. There is, however, more than one rule in photography, so the others must be hunted down and broken remorselessly. I spotted this grasshopper on the window and began snapping away. It soon struck me that I could break a rule here: fill the frame. Posted by AJAger at 8:54 AM. Friday, July 29, 2005. The next four were taken experimenting wi...

Photo Impressionism following Freeman Patterson and André Gallant. Saturday, November 19, 2005. Another Visit to Elk Island. Armed with two more rolls of 200 ISO film and several CF cards I headed back to Elk Island National Park this morning for more experimentation. The digital results are from merging two images using the following post processing. 1) Open the first image. 2) Open the second image and copy it then close the file. 4) duplicate the background and delete the original background layer.

Photo Impressionism following Freeman Patterson and André Gallant. Friday, December 02, 2005. Using Neil's suggestion for the last image in the previous post. Since this was film and everything was merged already at the time of processing I used the following steps. 1) Select highlights and created a layer with only this selection. 2) Blended this layer with multiply. 3) Copied this layer to enhance the effect. 4) Select shadows and created a layer with only this selection. http://clp69.blogspot.com/2005_11_16_archive.html

Photo Impressionism following Freeman Patterson and André Gallant. Wednesday, November 16, 2005. Last weekend I dusted off the film camera with the goal of shooting one entire roll of nothing but multiple exposures. With only one glitch due to a heavy shutter finger I managed to produce 23 multiple exposures using between 2 and 4 images. I used print film, 200 ISO. One experiment with 4 images involved the following steps:. 1) Set the ISO in the camera to 800 so each image will be under exposed by 3 stops.

Photo Impressionism following Freeman Patterson and André Gallant. Wednesday, August 10, 2005. A Study in Dirt - Exercise #2 Part #2. First the excuses, then the pictures. My house is new, there is no landscaping whatsoever and houses are still being constructed behind and beside. Therefore, the yard is just plain dirt (with a few weeds and a bit of canola thrown in for good measure). Included are 5 of the 20 images I took. 19 paces from the back door and within a 7 pace circle. Posted by clp69 at 9:17 PM.

Photo Impressionism following Freeman Patterson and André Gallant. Saturday, August 20, 2005. Inspiration - Ferns pg 14. I've always liked images where the part in focus seems to float on the rest of the image due to the very shallow depth of field. Though not copied I've tried the shallow DOF technique to get a peek-a-boo effect. Subject: Miniature Gerbera Daisy approx. 1 in across. Equipment: 28-135 with all three Kenko extension tubes and Sigma closeup filter. Posted by clp69 at 11:37 PM.

Keeper of the Hymnal

Keeper of the Hymnal. Thoughts from a Christ follower. Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Please read this book today. Links to this post. Sunday, July 18, 2010. Is Jesus in the running? It had political signs in the yard as well. Vote for this person for county commission, vote for this person as Governor, vote for this person as congressman, and in the middle of all these political signs was this simple sign that had the name of Jesus on it. I was really sad and troubled. May we see the world as Jesus does....
