ARTIST J.Sharkey Thomas. JSharkey Thomas was born in Dobbsferry New York in 1930 and tutored early at home by a master of pen and ink portraiture, Bert Sharkey. The young artist had the honor of selecting from two scholarships for design and commercial art directly from high school, after which, apprenticeship in a Manhattan print house and later a Park Avenue couturier led ultimately to a free-lance art career.

ARTIST J.Sharkey Thomas. Not remotely related except on this page, these two animals are special favourites. Rare on the island where I live, a squirrel is a treasure wherever it appears. The Panda drawings are of Hsing Hsing and Ling Ling very early in their tenure at the Washington Zoo. This collection was sold in New York to benefit The World Wildlife Fund in 1972.

ARTIST J.Sharkey Thomas. Probably the most engaging creature in this family of animals is the diminutive Arctic Fox. A favourite study at the Okanagan Game Farm, these sweet foxes change colour with the seasons, and are so fleet of foot the finely tapered legs appear to vanish as they run. Ever alert, curious, and aware, the facial expressions are irresistable.
