Monday, June 16, 2014. The NBA in China. On one of my first days at work, one of the Chinese teachers asked me “Where are you from? 8221; I told her Miami. To this, she replied “I really love Dwayne Wade.” It surprised me that this young, Chinese woman knew who Dwayne Wade was; especially since I wasn’t entirely sure who he was. We went to the Badaling section of the wall, which is about 50 miles northwest of Beijing. With traffic, it took us about two hours to get there. Monday, June 9, 2014. In China, the hair a child is born with (womb hair) is considered bad luck. So, traditionally, most of the hair is shaved off for good luck. Often, a little tuft of hair is left at the top of the head. Now, many people do not shave their baby’s head. They often just do a symbolic trim for the occasion. Monday, December 30, 2013. Restaurant Review: The Peak (Haidian District). The Peak is owned/ managed by a Chinese man named Henry. Henry lived in Toronto for several years. Monday, February 24, 2014. Last week, my husband, Luiz, and I were sitting at home, watching tv. While we were on the couch, someone knocked on our door. Now, normally, we don’t answer the door unless we’re expecting someone. Our foreignness tends to startle. The other person continued to knock. Finally, he called out “Uh…Hello? I’ve never had someone track me down to offer me a job before. It was nice to know I could have had a new job if I needed it but, it was a little weird too. Links to this post.
