Confessions of a middle aged filmmaker: October 2006

Confessions of a middle aged filmmaker. The story of a filmmaker trying to produce his first feature film. Tuesday, October 03, 2006. You either have it or you don't. Life experience does help improve the quality of a film. That was pretty much a universal theme in two of the books that I'd read on directors this weekend. The other constant theme was this notion of the script being the most important thing - it's not everything - but it is the most important element of a great film. Why? Because the dire...

Confessions of a middle aged filmmaker. The story of a filmmaker trying to produce his first feature film. Thursday, May 18, 2006. Today we obtained official permission to use the music from Ken Burn's "The Civil War"! The part of the day that was interesting was this. Until I was sure what I'd do, I started using the sound track from Ken Burn's "The Civil War" as placeholder music. It really took the thing to a new level. So today, I put a call into Florentine Films, Ken Burn's production company. I...

Confessions of a middle aged filmmaker. The story of a filmmaker trying to produce his first feature film. Sunday, June 08, 2008. Pictures from the press day event for The Rocker can be viewed at. From the looks of it, and the reports that Mike gave, it was a great time. Thursday, June 05, 2008. Today I received my first (but hopefully not my last) check from a major movie studio. It was payment for the work that we did on Monday for having Gertrude at the press day out west for "The Rocker". The press d...

New Testament Math: May 2009
http://ntmath.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
This is a blog that describes my experiments with using statistics and mathematical analysis on the New Testament. View my complete profile. Saturday, 30 May 2009. Posted by Ian at Saturday, May 30, 2009. This is starting to push the bounds of usefulness, I realise, but I applied the same analysis of the most readable verses to chapters. John 17 (the 'High Priestly Prayer' of Jesus before his arrest). Rev 15 (not surprising - a very short chapter about the seven plagues). Now, the thing that is most surp...

Danny's Blog: All set to go to Portland, Oregon!
http://dannygreenfeld.blogspot.com/2009/09/all-set-to-go-to-portland-oregon.html
Friday, September 4, 2009. All set to go to Portland, Oregon! I'm off to the Pacific Northwest, specifically Portland, Oregon. I'll be presenting a tutorial with James Tauber. And participating in two panels. This sort of event is always a lot of work, study, and networking. I won't have much time to go sightseeing because this is a working trip, but I'm sure to squeeze in a little bit. Portland is a very green city, has great food, and is famous for cycling. I'm sure I can find something to do!
