Things I make, things I like. Little Objects for Forthcoming Animations. July 19, 2011. I’m working on a basic set which has to have three functions. These are some of the things I’ve been making for it. The headboard of the cot. Is about 20cm high and about 14 cm wide. It has a fantastic little blanket which was made by an extremely skilled knitter – I’m hoping to persuade her to knit clothing on an insanely tiny scale for some of my character models. Things I make, things I like. FANGUS, the Werebaby! February 19, 2012. Little creature in the making. This is the initial stage in modeling the head of a Werebaby. I made two different kinds of bodies; a silicone one with a twisted wire armature inside (dark blue), and one with a ball and socked armature that was padded and dressed in a fabric baby-gro. In a short animation sequence he will transform form the ordinary baby – pictured below, into a much hairier and toothier one! Ball and socket armature.

Things I make, things I like. Doris: “The Housekeeper”. April 27, 2011. Once the head was out of the mould, I painted in the features and started to add the hair. The hands have been cast with a twisted wire armature inside them, they’re just out of the mould here and haven’t been trimmed yet. The real Doris wore nail varnish so I’ll paint that on. Things I make, things I like. June 19, 2011. I’ve finished Doris’s dog, and have given him a little tartan coat and bow for his hair. The eyes were supposed to be temporary – substituted with off-white ones of the same size, but I’ve grown used to these blue ones and may keep them in. He took longer to make than expected and was a bit of a fiddle, in fact that scowling expression he has mirrors the one I wore for much of the making process. Still he’s finished now and I love him! Things I make, things I like. June 1, 2011. After a spell making prop weapons and rockets, I’ve had a chance to start making a small section of hallway for a test animation of Doris. I’m re-using a door from a previous set and have adjusted it to open in the opposite way – reversing the door handle and finger plate positions. Painted balsa door detail. One of the highlights of blogging is being inspired by the work of all the other crafty individuals from all over the world so I am delighted to be able to start contributing to Our Creative Spaces. Once again. So much talent and crafty goodness gathered together in one place! My current WIP is a penguin for my friends' wee girl. The pattern calls for black and white cotton fabric but I thought it would be nice to try one in Harris Tweed. As that is the fabric closest to my heart!

Friday, 24 June 2011. I'm a bit late with this weeks Creative Space post due to some Blogger nonsense! Problem fixed, I wanted to share a couple of handmade gifts with you. I keep all my old packaging for use in projects such as this so I chose a suitably sized box, tissue paper recycled from a gift I had received and a piece of bias binding which was not a useful length. I put the tissue in the box first with a double layer of greaseproof paper on top of that and then filled the box with chocolate pieces.

Thursday, 26 April 2012. Last week after Val. Showed me how to do these squares for my Babette blanket again. I have been averaging around 2 a day and have built up quite a collection. I am finding the monotony quite therapeutic and it is very exciting pulling all the colours (18 in all! These are my 2 faves so far. The colours are just so yummy - the picture doesn't do them justice but take it from me they are intense! See what everyone else is up to this week over here. I defy you not to be inspired!

Tuesday, 10 April 2012. Off my poor neglected blog! I am going to try to get back into the swing of it but I know that it is going to be a struggle as I am out of the habit.and I am very much a creature of habit! I thought I would ease my way back in with an old project I completed in November 2011. It is a curtain for the door of my friends' beautiful, old but very draughty cottage! They actually commissioned it in 2010 but I am such a slacker it took me a whole year to do it. Well that wasn't so hard!

Friday, 13 April 2012. When I first got Fly 10 months ago I was adamant that I would not let her do certain things. For example there was NO WAY she would be allowed on the furniture. You can see how that worked out! Truth is the pup is the apple of my eye and I can deny her nothing - either that or she has me mesmorised with her doggy stare. I have recently returned from Southampton where I was visiting my Dad. I was out walking there one day when I met a woman with a dog that was the image of Fly.
