We stayed four nights at the basic but clean Lily Guesthouse (owned by Charles’ younger sister) but later treated ourselves by checking into the Governor’s Mansion in Pyin Oo Lwin, the former British hill station, on the road back to Mandalay. Leg rowing on Inle. Four days in Inle was the perfect amount of time. Cruising the lake in our hired boat, we visited the Paung Daw Oo Paya, where devotees applying gold leaf have transformed four Buddha statues into amorphous blobs, and the Shan stupas at Thaung Tho at the southern end of the lake.
