I think she was about to set off a bomb. My leg was starting to itch. My elbows hurt. Then she looked up, her eyes sharp. I lowered my guard and my paper, my mouth shaping a silent ‘No! As her thumb finally made its choice. To see the prompt for this story. Off site: publication news. October 1, 2014.

Today I’d like to share a poem I wrote for the Body Beautiful Project. This poem did not fit on a postcard, sadly. In fact, it was so intricate that WordPress wouldn’t display the formatting correctly, so instead I invite you to click below to read it. Goodbye and Hello Twig. June 15, 2014. We stretch out a hand.

Poetry, fiction, observations. Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. What happened in the past. November 17, 2014. We speak in code. We generalise, but we are talking about ourselves. Men means ‘our men’. People means ‘me in particular’. Our wishes for our future and the way we see our lives now are encoded in the latest book that seemed so true, or our new theory on love. That is how we talk. I think people are always searching for grace, I say.

Was it fear of time alone with you? Too much time just you and you and me,. A remnant of the early days when. Panic flooded me at double cries. 8221; I’d cry at crack of dawn. 8220;Come and help, they’re both awake! I drag these bright and cheery faces. Here and there from house to shops. To parks to groups to Gran to town. August 22, 2013.

Poetry, fiction, observations. Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. What happened in the past. February 28, 2014. Yesterday, I had the tremendous privilege of being a good friend’s birth partner. This was the first time I had ever done anything like it, and it also happened to be a planned caesarean, something of which I had no experience either. So, naturally, I had to write a poem about it. This one is for you, M. All I can see is your head.

The Future | SDG:JJ
https://owenkingston.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/the-future
If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. October 14, 2010. Hello all –. Firstly and most importantly, I’m now a Dad. My first son was born two days ago and both mother and baby are doing fine. Maybe more on this later, but I’m somewhat knackered and have just logged on to make a quick post. We make the artificial distinction between a nuke fired in anger and a ‘test’, but environmentally speaking, what’s the difference? Have we already had our nuclear apocalypse? This is an utterly urgen...

If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. June 26, 2010. Just finished my first film shot in HD – astounded by the results. It may not make a huge difference on the small screen, but for the big screen it’s the only way. Had a great team working on this one too – the idea and script came from an old school friend Tori Morris and her writing partner Lou Fitzgerald. Directing with me was the inimitable Anita Wadsworth, and our DoP was the fabulous Kevin Ahronson. May 13, 2010. Then just a c...
Making movies | SDG:JJ
https://owenkingston.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/making-movies
If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. November 15, 2012. So it turns out our team just won our local 48hour film making challenge. That’s pretty cool. Making a film is flipping hard at the best of times – doing it in 48 hours is damn near impossible. This is our film – our given genre was crime, and the two random props we had to include were a broom and an eyepatch. Comment if you want to see more films. I have a bunch now. Publish and be damned! Laquo; A realm of possibility. Sorry,...

A realm of possibility | SDG:JJ
https://owenkingston.wordpress.com/2012/11/13/a-realm-of-possibility
If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. November 13, 2012. A realm of possibility. I like the future: it’s the realm of possibility. Everything that has happened is now out of my control, but everything that is yet to be, I may still exert some influence over. For everything I do is a very real choice to me – decisions made all the time often with far reaching consequences, yet those decisions are already made, have always been made and will always be made. Publish and be damned! Riding...
Six weeks to the Apocalypse | SDG:JJ
https://owenkingston.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/six-weeks-to-the-apocalypse
If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. November 11, 2012. Six weeks to the Apocalypse. With just under six weeks to go before the end of everything I thought it might be nice to record some thoughts once again, you know, so that they can get obliterated along with everything else leaving no one the opportunity to read them. So, what has happened? Well we have two children now – our son has recently turned two, and our daughter was born six weeks ago. Life is somewhat busy. Leave a Repl...
On Growing Up. | SDG:JJ
https://owenkingston.wordpress.com/2012/11/17/on-growing-up
If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. November 17, 2012. Sometimes I think I’d love to go back in time and talk to an earlier version of myself. I have so many things I’d like to tell myself. So much advice. They say that youth is wasted on the young and that is probably true, certainly the rose tinted spectacles of hindsight would have me believe so. How will they dress? I have a daughter and a son. What will they sound like? Who will they be? Why would my children listen to me?
Fixing what is broken | SDG:JJ

If it’s good enough for JS Bach, it’s good enough for me. January 10, 2013. Fixing what is broken. 8220;Daddy, fix it! 8221; That’s what I do. My little son is only two, but he has already learned that if something breaks in our house, it’s me who fixes it. 8220;Daddy, fix it! 8221; “I’m sorry son, I can’t”. Not something I ever want to have to say, but that day will come as surely as the sun and the rains. To fix something, you have to really understand it – whether it’s wheels on a toy car ...My son ha...

Writing People Poetry… and everything in between. Newer posts →. January 1, 2015. So, another year is upon us. In a post I wrote just before Christmas. I said that 2014 had been a good year. On reflection, that wasn’t entirely truthful. The end of 2013 wasn’t great and 2014 started quietly. It seems that was the right way to go for me. The year has had its ups and downs but I managed to find Joy. In the little things and continue taking baby steps towards my big dreams. That was scary. It still is! Well,...
