Digital Snowflake: Sensing Human Activity Using Financial Data
http://julenkaschwarz.blogspot.com/2008/08/sensing-human-activity-using-financial.html
Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Friday, August 01, 2008. Sensing Human Activity Using Financial Data. One of my latest projects, to help people visualize where they spend their money, and how often they visit places. The larger the polygon over a location, the more often you visit it. The more red/purple the polygon, the more you've spent there. Which also contains a weekly journal of what I've been up to. If you want to learn more, check out the site!

Digital Snowflake: July 2007
http://julenkaschwarz.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Wednesday, July 25, 2007. It has been almost one year since I've written in this blog. In many cases, one year means nothing. Even for people, one year is often not long enough to change a person much once they get past the age of 10. But this year meant a lot to me. Took on a research project, and got fired. Had my heart broken. Spent more time skiing in Whistler than in school. Dropped my physics major.

Digital Snowflake: A Surprise in the Mail
http://julenkaschwarz.blogspot.com/2008/08/surprise-in-mail.html
Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Monday, August 25, 2008. A Surprise in the Mail. I received a nice surprise today in an orange envelope, first class mail. I didn't receive a scholarship, get a job offer, or win a million dollars. Instead I received a plastic bag filled with puzzle pieces that made up a giant letter my friend Sarah had written me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Digital Snowflake: My Favorite OpenMosaic so Far
http://julenkaschwarz.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-favorite-openmosaic-so-far.html
Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Wednesday, April 15, 2009. My Favorite OpenMosaic so Far. I started a website called openmosaic.org last summer. The goal was to create a mosaic which anybody could edit, and to see how it changed over time. The mosaic has had some interesting drawings in the future, but I think this is my favorite so far. I really love the skier. Thank you to whoever made this! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Sunday, October 15, 2006. On Parents and Potential. So much depends on two people in rocking chairs on the front porch. They said "why don't you find a team, and we'll sign you up." Of course, Sally never found the track team. At seven, she was too shy, too young, and had to much to do. Who could blame her? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. On Parents and Potential.

Ever since I started really getting into computers, I've been really interested in finding the quickest way to do just about anything. Unless you're editing photos or browsing maps, the fastest way to do something is using keyboard shortcuts. Well, firefox has it, and it's called "bookmark keywords". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Tuesday, March 03, 2009. Lessons From Carnegie Mellon Visit Days. My journey across the U.S. and back (the first of 4 in 6 weeks) proved very educational. For one, I took away several lessons from Manuel Blum's talk on how to succeed in grad school. Here are a few:. A book is not a scroll. It is random access. That is the beauty of books. That you can start and stop reading anywhere. 1 Have something to say.

Thoughts and experiences from a computer science chick, juggler and powder hound. Sunday, September 30, 2007. With my comfort bike of brick, I may not have biked a long distance, but I did bike for a long time. But it seems like those wounds take longer to heal. F getting lost on the first day of our trip. After a wrong turn, about a half hour of confusion and a visit to the wrong town, my mom and I finally found our way back. Who would have thought that we were supposed to make a left on a ̶...From ...
