In the still of the night it felt like those trains jumped right off the tracks and were coming for us. A fine WordPress.com site. Officially on our way. July 21, 2014. We felt a bit like kids leaving home for the first time as we struck out on our own. Our first destination was the beautiful Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay. We locked up the bikes and lumbered our panniers into a locker. What to do with our gear when we stop is an ongoing question. We spent a couple of hours at the gardens and they were well worth the visit. The geezer in charge sold us rookies wet wood. Took forever to get this going.

Don warned us that there were three gigantic hills we’d need to walk up but we didn’t discover those. The perception of a hill from inside a car can be quite misleading. The glorious Princeton/Summerland road. Well yes and no. A cyclist loaded up with panniers will pass through nicely if they’re careful, if they are not, well…. After brushing myself off and spreading a bit of betadine...The tunnel to woes.

Our last day in Vancouver was another beautiful day which started early with a ride around spectacular and deserted Stanley Park. Although the sun is up at 5.30 am, seems like most Vancouverites don’t venture out onto the cyle/walk paths until late in the morning. Stanley park cycle path right along the waterfront. This is a great city for cycling. Siwash rock – or pineapple rock. Perfect morning for a ride and hardly a soul in sight.

The morning bike ride was a soggy and windy one! Last roses (Gold bunny). The bulbs and rhizomes:. Narcissus working on blooming. I started with August flowers and now nearly a year has (suddenly) passed and as I look around the garden I see loads of changes from one year ago. Plants we’ve added, plants we’ve pulled out, plants that have given up the ghost, but mostly plants that have grown! And a few of the edible plants/trees are starting to flower!
