Monday, 29 October 2007. I think this was a great success. Postbridge, Devon. 9th-11th October 2007. 15 people from all walks of life (ok, one - air traffic control. But it sounds better! Too much happened to recount here (and I can't remember all of it.), but thanks to Al for the idea and the bike ride leads, Andy for the marvellous free acoustic gigs and everybody else for coming along! Andy's gig on the first night. The abandoned Medieval village of Challacombe. For two days, this was home. Over The T...

Tuesday, 28 August 2007. Wainman's Pinnacle and Lund's Tower 16th August 2007. Getting out on walks has been difficult this year with the terrible weather, so on this occasion it was nice to grab an available window and beat the rain for once. Lund's Tower from the Dog and Gun. Wainman's Pinnacle from Crag End. The view from Wainman's Pinnacle. Monday, 27 August 2007. Lying just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this would make an excellent base for a walking weekend and is a nice, quiet alterna...

Monday, 30 June 2008. Climbing up Trow Gill on the way to Gaping Gill. Monday 26th May, 2008. Bradford Pothole Club's field HQ. Helmets were compulsory, optional were green waterproof coveralls (and the source of much merriment). Being winched down the almost 400ft to the bottom in a chair was a strangely serene experience. It's what they're all wearing this year. Jo contemplates her fate. Looking into the abyss. Janie and Simone looking blurry. The Gaping Gill camp viewed from on high. Lunch stop at Top...

Sunday, 12 October 2008. After The Lord Mayor's Show. Settle, Sunday 21st September 2008. The day after the big day, and the sun was shining in Settle. The town's famous flags were out for the festival the coming week. A couple of years before, when much fitter, I did a 23-mile walk in the Chilterns that contained a Snowdon's worth of climb in it. The day after I felt fine, except when I had to move from my chair! Being rescued by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance would not be one of them? Settle - the video:.

Tuesday, 24 February 2009. Wreck site viewed from the A57. January’s issue of Country Walking contained a feature on the wreck of the B-29 Superfortress scattered on Bleaklow in the Peak District. Coincidentally, we were going on a weekend in Buxton later that month so had an opportunity to view it ourselves. Captain Landon P Tanner, Pilot. Wreck site at Higher Shelf Stones. Thursday, 24 April 2008. The Yellow Peril outside Bargate Cottage. Still, a good weekend with some great photos. And the snow? By Sunday it had all gone. Looking down at Castleton. A rather Alpine-looking Mam Tor. Sue, Debbie and Ian taking a breather at Hollins Cross. Along the ridge to Mam Tor. An very artistic offering left at Hollins Cross. A very wintry Vale Of Edale. Sihouettes against the skyline at. Looking along the ridge to Lose Hill. Nearing the top of Mam Tor. A welcome sight after a long walk.

Boots Across Britain: September 2007

Friday, 28 September 2007. Mossdale - A Tragic Anniversary. Arthur C Clarke once queried if there was such a thing as a strange coincidence (presumably just another oxymoron to him), but on 23rd June 2007 we experienced just that. The Summer-That-Never-Was promised a window of opportunity to go on a full day's walk without getting wet, so we convened in Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales to do a 10-mile walk from one of Neil's walking books to Mossdale Scar and back. After passing through some interestin...
