Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The Receipt of a Gift. The Visit" by Julia Zollman Wickes. Rt and artistic people have always been around me. I suppose I have always taken it for granted that that was just "what we do" in my family. With the recent death of my Aunt Mary Rose and our memorial gathering, I would like pay tribute to a great artistic influence in my life. My memories of Aunt Mary Rose are very colorful! Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Friday, February 11, 2011. Cairo on My Mind. There is no doubt where my thoughts are today and where the thoughts of much of the world are today. Cairo. How could you miss what is happening there? Life changing for Egyptians. Life changing for the middle east, no doubt. This painting came from my sketchbook. As we drove through Cairo, I made drawings of all of the mosque domes I could. Such interesting designs and no two alike. Labels: Cairo on My Mind.

http://jzwickes.blogspot.com/2014/01/baby-its-cold-outside.html
Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Saturday, January 4, 2014. The Great 40th Anniversary Escapade, Part 3 or, Baby, It's Cold Outside. Well, baby, it sure wasn't cold outside at the beautiful tea house in Shanghai in July of 2013. It was at least 95 degrees Fahrenheit. But jumping ahead to January, 2014, it is a wonderful day to fix yourself a cup of tea, sit in your favorite chair and pick up that book you have been trying to get back to. Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Monday, January 18, 2010. The Story Continues-"In the midst of it all, there was singing". Less than a week ago, a horrific earthquake, epicentered in Port au Prince, hit Haiti. Donna Lively Clark, my musician partner in the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra's Notable Arts. Today, I read news accounts of people in Haiti gathering in the open to sing together, to provide comfort. Danza #4 inspired me to paint a story and the story has grown bigger. I loved ...

Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Friday, September 16, 2011. 9/11-An Artistic Response, the next step. Where to place them? Why did this need to be so difficult? In the end, just doing these paintings helped me get my energy to create things back again. There is a feeling of isolation there. I called the series "Beyond the Edge". Monday, September 12, 2011. 9/11-An Artistic Response, continued. I am not sure whether I had nothing to say or too much to say. Friday, September 9, 2011.

http://jzwickes.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Thoughts on the making, viewing and purpose of art. Tuesday, February 12, 2013. So after a few tries, I think I got it. Thanks, Priscilla, for being my model from about 1200 miles. This is not really Priscilla. She's prettier. But THAT'S a Roman Nose! Searching for that Roman Nose. To have that beautiful Roman Nose. I keep coming close, but then it just isn't quite there. Here is my work in progress. When I finally find that Roman Nose, shall I title the painting Roman Nose or Red Turban as I had planned?
