Friday, April 25, 2014. A Walk in the Woods. On one of my email lists, people report the first wildflowers of the year. This always gets me feeling antsy because I don't want to miss the spring ephemerals - they are gone so quickly! I was able to relax a little over the weekend when I saw that most flowers are not ready yet. Like these trout lilies. I saw only one in full bloom. The May apples are preparing, too:. Working to preserve the Maplenol Good Farm Dairy Barn in West Des Moines. Maplenol Barn in print? August 2, 2012 in random barn thoughts. In mid-July, I received a request from the “Barn Lady,” Jan Arnett. Arnett offered her book as a fundraiser for Friends of the Maplenol Barn during the Save the Barn campaign. We’ve still kept in touch even though we didn’t sell her book. She is asking for the story of the barn being saved and moved to be considered for a couple books. What do you think about this?

Working to preserve the Maplenol Good Farm Dairy Barn in West Des Moines. The Mapelnol Dairy Barn is a 1930 s dairy barn that once was a part of Good Farm, established in the late 1880’s. It is located on the campus of Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. Sadly, the West Des Moines Community School District, in an effort to expand options on the high school’s landlocked property has decided to demolish the barn. The permit has already been issued.
